Quincy, M.E. seasons seven and eight news:

Quincy, M.E. - Could the Final Two Seasons of the Classic Show Be In-the-Works?
The show starring the legendary Jack Klugman might get concluded on DVD within a year!
Posted by David Lambert
4/30/2014

In 2005, Universal released a DVD set with the first two seasons of the popular show starring Jack Klugman, but didn't follow up with the third season until 2009. Then, in 2012, Shout! Factory acquired the home video rights to the property, releasing the fourth season by the end of that year, and in 2013 releasing the fifth and sixth seasons of the series. But what of the final two seasons for Quincy, M.E. on DVD? One of our readers, Barry Holland, sent an email to Shout! asking about that, and he's forwarded their response to us:
Hi Barry,

You'll be pleased to know that customer inquiries through our website helped get the last two seasons of this series on our production schedule. The release dates aren't set in stone yet, but look for season seven at the end of the year and season eight in early 2015.

Best,

Customer Service
Shout! Factory"
Of course, those are the studio's CURRENT plans, and are far from finalized, so that information could be subject to change (or even outright cancellation, if any major obstacles crop up). And there's nothing in there which lets us know if this would be a release at general retail stores, or if it would be an internet-only pair of products from the "Shout! Select" program, and thus sold exclusively via the studio's online store. It's still well over half a year away (if the above timeframe holds), so stay tuned and we'll fill you in as further developments occur. Our thanks to Barry for sharing this with us!

Jack Klugman returns as the City of Angels' most brilliant and uncompromising medical examiner in Season Seven of the hit series Quincy, M.E. All 24 Episodes!

Investigating suspicious deaths for the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, the strong-willed Quincy frequently confronted some of the era's toughest social issues. Season Seven's twenty-four episodes (originally airing on NBC's 1981-82 television season) find the intrepid doctor taking on cases involving fraternity hazing, toxic waste, gun control, and drunk driving.

Frequently cited as an influence on today's successful crime investigation dramas, Quincy, M.E.: Season 7 also features guest appearances by Mimi Rogers, Tyne Daly, Jonathan Frakes and Dixie Carter.
It's been a year since the sixth season came out, and now Shout! Factory is following up at last with Quincy, M.E. - Season 7 on DVD, the next-to-last season of the show! Scheduled to be in stores on November 11th, this 6-disc package with closed captioning will cost $39.97 SRP. It's not up for pre-order at Amazon just yet, but if you pre-order it directly from the Shout! Factory online store (see button link below) then not only will you get it at a discount, but the title also ships on October 7th, five weeks earlier than the in-store store date! Our thanks to reader John Hughes for tipping us off about that; here's the cover art:

I'm four episodes into the S7 release and so far I like this season(!). I didn't expect the two-parter, "Slow Boat to Madness" to not be truly terrible, even if the actors playing the East Bloc-esque skating defectors weren't exactly Olivier-level thespians.

It's also amusing to see the two "stranded" on a tropical island when in fact it's the beach near Jim Rockford's trailer! The minds behind "Quincy" merely place some plants in the camera's sight and there you have it, tropical foliage! It's also nice to see the cruise ship from the Kolchak episode "Werewolf" get another gig. Columbo used that ship as well and I suppose it's the "Pacific Princess"?

Nice of Klugman to shoehorn Asten and co. into a brief scene in each episode and giving everyone a line so they get paid. Jack Klugman was a saint.

Ah, Quincy, M.E., you cure the Everyday Blues. smile

Memories of Allison is a favorite of mine. Slow Boat to Madness was the annual "epidemic" show, and it was fine. A little padded because of the two-part structure, but I thought the means of distinguishing who caught it and who didn't was kind of clever. The second-to-last season is the first one that really shows signs of quality consistency problems since the first year, but there are still a pretty fair number of good shows and a couple of great ones. The last season is not nearly as successful, but we can lament that one when we get it in our hands!

"For Want of a Horse" has a Bruce Broughton score and in it BB uses a menacing harmonica motif for Luke Askew's character that is perilously close to a motif used for Lee Van Cleef's character in Take a Hard Ride.

Up until now, Broughton's scores for QME haven't been that memorable, but in S7 he's provided excellent work thus far.

Quincy, M.E. - Jack Klugman Returns to Shout! for his 8th and Final Season
6-DVD set with the last 24 episodes will hit the slab in early March

Jack Klugman's brilliant and uncompromising medical examiner returns for one more shift in the eighth and final season of the hit series Quincy, M.E.

Investigating suspicious deaths for the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, the strong-willed Quincy was a favorite of TV fans for his medical mystery-solving prowess as well as his investigations into the social issues of the day. In this season's offering (originally airing from 1982 to 1983), the good doctor explores the topics of drug abuse, the failings of our legal and corporate structure, teenage suicide, and the effects of song lyrics on our nation's youth.

Often considered a precursor to today's successful crime-scene investigation dramas, Quincy, M.E.: Season Eight is the riveting final piece of the puzzle for fans wanting to complete their collection of this much-requested drama favorite.
Shout! Factory brings the great Jack Klugman back to DVD for his eighth and last production year with Quincy, M.E. - The Final Season, coming to stores on March 10th. Priced at $39.97 SRP, you'll get a 6-disc set with all 24 episodes, and each of those closed captioned. We're very happy that Shout! has completed this great show on DVD, and we know that you are too. Pre-order your copy right away, at a discount, from the online Shout! Store using the button link below. Under that, you can examine the front of the package art:

Just finished the seventh season dvds and despite the emphasis on "issue of the week" stories, I feel that S7 was the strongest since season four.

Here's the interview with Jack Klugman where he discusses the origins of QUINCY. It includes the amusing Glen A. Larson anecdote:

Tonight I was watching the Star Trek episode "Balance of Terror" and I couldn't believe it when I saw Garry Walberg! He's Hansen, the doomed commander of outpost 4. I can't believe it that I didn't notice that until now.

It's still funny how the anti-gravity and life support systems never seem to fail...

I like the episode of Quincy where someone dies and Quincy thinks it is suspicious. Nobody believes him and his boss orders him to stop his enquires, but after a defiant speech about ethics and morality, Quincy keeps digging and is ultimately proved right.

Not sure what the episode is called but it sure does seem to be shown a lot.......

"Queency", a tepid parody of the show from Marvel's CRAZY magazine (March 1980 on sale date, May 1980 cover date)

Watched one of the most infuriating episodes of Quincy, season six's "The Hope of Elkwood."

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0681855/reference

The episode itself is not bad, about an athlete who dies after what was possibly overly-strenuous training. It's another "back door pilot" episode, with precious little Klugman on screen time. However, what murders this episode is the courtroom polemic delivered by the back door pilot potential series lead of the week and probable auniversal contract player, John Elerick, best known by me for an appearance in an episode of KOLCHAK.

The judge has ruled in favor of Elerick's client (played by Frank Marth), but then the attorney requests to address the court anyway. He proceeds to proclaim his absolved client "morally guilty", as well as everyone else in the room who supports the "culture of winning" present in sports. This rant is also pointedly directed towards the deceased athlete's father! The man's son just died and some dirtbag lawyer is reading him the riot act about how he should be ashamed of himself for supporting the culture of winning!

It's the kind of script implosion that has me screaming obscenities at the TV. The speech goes on for five minutes before the episode ends with the perfuctory last scene at Danny's restaurant.

Infuriating. 2/10 though it would be a 7/10 had it not been for that courtroom speech.

I haven't been this entaged at a TV episode since "The Odyssey of Jubal Tanner", from S1 of The Big Valley. LOL!

Sorry haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if this was mentioned. I remember reading what a break out role it was for Robert Ito. Jack Klugman really fought to make Ito a "non-Asian" character in the series. The writers kept wanting to add Asian jokes or write stereotypical lines for an Asian character and he kept telling them to cut it out.

I loved the series growing up. Loved his outrage at the injustice he saw. Quincey was the first SJW wasn't he? wink I don't remember the series going on for eight seasons though. I wonder if I saw them all. I've only seen them in first run.

Like I said Quincy was the very first SJW. (even if hes not the one giving the rant.)

There was a little of the stereotypical Asian jokery during the first season, but thankfully only sparingly afterwards. It was also refrshing whenever Sam was the focus of an episode, and not merely because it was an "Asian"-themed episode, though there were those, too.

"Welcome to Paradise Palms" is a much better episode, as the social justice angle is more an undercurrent to the problem (bubonic plague, baby!) when a Native American community and soon-to-open fancy-ass golf course is due to open are at odds. The story is more focused on the disease and the human element rather than what the "state of California needs to do to address the problem." There's a flimsy attempt to placate those who would battle disease through religious means, but it's unconvincing. Still, a good episode that is served well by the Universal stock cast (Dennis Patrick among them) and the beautiful though harsh desert locations. I like it when Quincy gets the Hell out from under the "bloody red sun of phantastic L.A."

8/10
