In other words they should have made a good film instead. 
I honestly think they made a great film and just made some bad decisions in the editing suite.

I saw MAN OF STEELE(in 2D) last night and was underwhelmed - I agree with many comments here(just read them now) - a convoluted script, underdevolped characters, overdone CGI violence( a superhero destroys buildings without any concern for the consequences - OMG),lackluster score, etc.
Zap - How can a great film be lost in a mediocre film ? - it is or isnt great - as it stands now it's a 2.5 IMO - if it is reeditted and tons of footage is removed/added, it isnt the same film !
There are many fine actors in MOS - Amy Adams, Diane Lane ,Kevin Costner, etc. but most have so little to work with that their characters are not properly or fully realized(Christopher Meloni comes off best). Henry Cavill is an outstanding choice for the title role - but the empathy I had for all previous Supermans - from George Reeves to Chris Reeve to Dean Cain to Tom Welling to Brandon Routh(!) - was lacking in MAN OF STEEL. It is not Cavill's fault - he has great potential and I hope he gets another chance to play SUPERMAN. (btw does a new SUPERMAN movie have to change all the previous mythology many of us have grown up with and love? i.e. Lois knows from the beginning Clark as Superman - and calls him Clark all thru the movie - so no secret identity ..)Hope someone more understanding of these characters might direct a sequel but probably that wont happen - And was there even one moment of humour in the whole film?
You know I had hope in the first half that it might be better than just passable when the little girl - young Clark's best friend on the school bus - is identified as Lana!! Of course , we never see or hear of her again! oh well...

If enough good scenes are shot, and they surely were in this case, then you can assemble a great film in the editing suite, or you can stunt the film with bad editing decisions and assemble a mediocre movie. Same production, same plot, same actors, same raw footage, but the difference in quality will be enormous.

I understand what you are saying but as it stands , the movie isnt very good --
with today's technology and the constant revisions and redos of already released films that goes on , yes ,it could be improved . But we cannot base an opinion on " things to come" until they appear.

My friend pointed out, rather perfectly, that this is one of the film's most major flaws.
"I am not as strongly connected to the franchise and I know this story has been retold again and again in different ways, so I’m not complaining that things are changed… I’m complaining that things are changed the wrong day. We spend the first act on Krypton, for instance, to see it’s destruction… which we learn is because they’ve become a monster Brave New World society that grows their offspring for specific work rather than giving anyone free will. But the point of Krypton’s destruction is that we’re supposed to see OURSELVES in their plight and realize that humanity can overcome the same issue. That’s a great reason to change this story every few decade – totalitarianism in the 1940s, militarism in the 1950s, ruining their environment in the 1990s, etc., etc. But we do not look at Krypton growing human ants and say OH MY GOD JUST LIKE US. We say ‘hah, those stupid aliens’ and that’s the end of the thought process."

He still has a secret identity. It's not like the whole world knows Clark is Superman, just Lois. Personally, while I was surprised that they had her figure out the truth right in the first movie, I also found it kind of refreshing and a welcome change.
As for the film, I went in with pretty low expectations, but had to walk out admitting I did enjoy it, more than I thought I would. It wasn't perfect, but I actually liked a lot of things they did. My biggest complaint was really just Amy Adams. I find her a completely bland actress, and she had zero chemistry with Henry Cavill. She's definitely my least favorite Lois Lane. Otherwise, I actually had fun watching it. I saw it again yesterday and took my brother, who has never been a Superman fan and knew pretty much nothing beyond the general origin story, and he enjoyed it as well. I'll definitely get it when it hits Blu-Ray, and I look forward to the sequel. (I only wish they could re-cast Lois.)
