You need more music from season five there, Xander.

I just procrastinated last weekend and watched "Shells" and "Time Bomb". And there is some good stuff in there. Unfortunately, I got so caught in what was happening on screen that I forgot to write down when which score is playing. wink

Some cues are already in others seasons, that explains the "less" in the 5th season smile ,I checked, nothing really "noticable" if I may say (for me at least), more "ambiant" cues except one or two maybe in "Time Bomb". I really tried to put the essential considering a complete score of every episode is not doable >< BUT you can see there is time left on the last cd..ahah

Listen to the score in this scene. The piano notes at 00:30 and specially at 2:00!

Absolutely shameful the rip-off.

Did Christophe Beck work on that show or was he just sampled?

Also, to keep being consistently annoying for LLLR. I can't wait for these eventual Buffy(verse) CD sequels. razz

I am so psyched for an Angel box right now!
Hopefully one day soon! big grin

And about the rip-off razz
He's a huge Beck fan! Here's from an interview he did:

M: Aha. So who are you favorite composers?

F: I really like Christophe Beck’s work. I already adored him when he did movies like Elektra or The Sentinel which a lot of people didn’t like but I thought were amazing.

M: I loved his work on Buffy the vampire slayer, there was so much emotion in that score. He doesn’t write like that anymore in my opinion…

F: Yeah he’s more action oriented now. I thought Frozen was terrific. And he’s got a whole lot coming up this year

M: Beck is not a name you usually hear on favorites list…

F: I know and a lot of people tell me this. I still think Elektra is one of the most inovative scores I’ve ever heard and it’s still mindblowing to me to this day as it was back then when it came out. I know the movie wasn’t that great but the music changed the way I think about a lot of things, it was really groundbreaking to me.

Great list, Xander! I'd add a couple of cues from Somnambulist to that list -- the investigation montage and Kate's research montage after she finds out Angel's a vamp.

I'm new to this forum... Do La La Land have an official page where people can suggest cues?

There's threads that are semi-official (we have to start the threads, MV doesn't), like this one for BtVS. There's one for Angel, too, as I recall, but I didn't participate in it, so I don't know for sure.

Welcome!

Yes! Somnambulist score is awesome! Specifically the ones you mentioned!
Love that theme. There's also an amazing reprise of it in The Prodigal (last scenes with Darla/Angelus and Kate visiting her father's grave). Some amazing vocals in it too.

And yes, that thread Buffdale posted is THE thread for Buffy and Angel suggestions.
MikeJ (who put together the Buffy box) is keeping an eye on it for the Angel box. (and hopefully a Buffy Vol 2 box) big grin

I'd go to a Christophe Beck Buffy Music Live Concert.

I've been watching some season three episodes (procrastination hello!) and the music is just so damn good. I really hope I won't die before LLLR publishes a second volume. I am so dramatic, but yes this is my biggest fear.

I've always wanted to hear him perform Buffy stuff!! Wonder if this event will be streamed or something...?

And yes, season 3 is my favorite scored season!

We just gotta stay alive! First rule in the Buffyverse? DON'T DIE! *season 3 reference*

Oh, and be brave. Live. And such! big grin

Speaking of Buffy music, what has been your favorite non-score music on the show, Mr. Acathla? And do you own "The Album" and "Radio Sunnydale" ?

Of course I own them! big grin

"The Album" was actually my very first purchase online! i ordered it thinking it was songs only, only to find out the next day when I checked the tracklist that there was track called "Close Your Eyes". I was like "holy crap! Could it be??? That's what she says to Angel before she kills him!! It's the score from that scene!!!!!!" And was SOOO excited! And happy! Never even occurred to me that score could be released from a tv show and I had been dreaming of that theme for a long time already.

Then of course, as my luck goes, my order was delayed (I seriously think there's a curse over me when it comes to Buffy score. It's a cures about WAITING! I have always been WAITING! lol!). It took over two months before it arrived! Had to wait all summer for it. Constantly checking my mail box every morning. And then one day BAM! It was there. And YES! It was in fact the score cue I wanted. So I almost only listened to this one on repeat in the beginning, not even caring about the other songs. This was in 2000! lol!

But to answer you question: Yes! I do enjoy a lot of the non score music as well. My number one song used in the show is "Full Of Grace" by Sarah McLachlan from the same episode as "Close Your Eyes". Was so dissapointed it wasnt in The Album. But found it later. Also really like Michelle Branch's "Goodbye To You" from Tabula Rasa.
And those Alison Krauss songs used in season 1 and 6! And "Wild Horses" from The Prom!
There are plenty! hehe! big grin

I remember I bought "The Album" when I was in fifth grade and I was disappointed that there wasn't any charts music on it, because I was used to buying these compilations with the newest music that everybody was listening to. Suffice to say, nowadays that album is the only CD from that time that I still have. Ha!

I also think that the album has a very nice flow, like there is not one weak track on there.

I never understood why there were two different versions of "Radio Sunnydale", but I loved the UK version. Just having an album with Cibo Matto, Angie Hart, Aimee Mann was fantastic.

Interestingly, neither of those are my favorites. I think my absolute favorite song used on Buffy might be "Virgin State of Mind" by K's Choice (on the first album, featured in Doppelgangland). And of course "Sugar Water".

How about the musical, acathla? Favorite songs from the musical?

There are a lot of favorites I have on these sets; “Sugar Water,” the Alison Krauss and Sarah McLaughlan songs (I added “Full of Grace” to my Buffy playlist), “Virgin State of Mind,” “Pavlov's Bell,” “Kitty Cat Bone,”

Special mention must go to “Wild Horses” and “Blue” for how perfect those songs fit their respective episodes.

One of my favorite uses of a song in the show is one not featured on any Buffy album — “Job's Eyes” by Far, heard in the hyena episode when Xander and his pack being all hyena-y.

One of the things I really liked about the show (and even mentioned to my friend who introduced me to it through his wife's DVDs) was how consistently good the song selections were on the show.

Oh, yes, K's Choice song is also great. Think its the best SONG on The Album actually (not counting Close Your Eyes, of course razz )

From the musical, I really love "If We're Together"! So bummed when they cut that part from the edited episode :O
They only included "I've Got A Theory / Bunnies"....! And the beautiful "Standing / Under Your Spell (Reprise)".
Love how they pair the two songs together. Perfect fit!

Btw, loved how they brought back Beck for this episode! Love listening to the instrumental songs from the 5.1 audio. They're like great Beck cues!

What I like about it is that the music that they chose has a character in itself. There hasn't really been another show with the same selection of music.

There is an edited version of the musical episode? And they edited out "If We're Together" ? Which is like such a pivotal moment in the episode?

My favorite song is probably "Going Through The Motions", because I can relate to it so much. A close second is "Walk Through The Fire", because it's the musical climax, I think, with "Standing / Under Your Spell" coming in third for combining not only the strongest singers in the cast but also having them sing against each other.
