That Jaws cover is great Chris.

The thing that always annoyed me about the Varese cover is that the Bob Peak painting looks nothing like a Great White Shark! What made it more annoying was that the back cover had a terrific Bob Peak painting (Originally for 'Time' magazine) that would have made a brilliant cover! Anyone want to have a crack at that?!

A vast improvement Chris - superb. That Varese Jaws was, to put it mildly, poor ... quite surprising considering the talent involved. Haven't seen the back as I don't own it. Anyone got a decent scan?

Talking of world's worst score covers, nothing in my opinion measures up to this beauty. The official Japanese release ... what were they thinking?

Here you are, it's way beyond my capabilities.

One of my very first film soundtracks, purchased in 1964, I've always loved the cover, so when James announced a new digital recording of the score, I couldn't resist.

Ta for that.
You can't beat that original Ben Hur cover - makes me wonder what Tadlow's will look like. By the way you should check the gap between the 'Goldwyn' hyphen and 'Mayer' as it's too large.

Thanks for spotting that error raferjanders, it's these damn arthritic fingers of mine, sometimes they spasm and I print double spaces or the completely wrong letters.

It's an age thing.

Nice work on the Jaws cover Chris. I must say I prefer the 1st one as I'm not crazy about the black header bar at the top of the 2nd one. Beautiful choice to use the new poster art too, why does the shark always have to get all the love? wink

Your Obsession and Gulliver covers are ace too.

I think this would be the best starting point. Yeah, the US Varese used part of this but it lacked the movie Superman crystaline logo and font, and the colour did not pop as nicely:

Or this iconic shot used for the Laserdisc cover:

Or this (teaser poster I think it was, just needs the logo corrected):

Or if you'd prefer something more modern, the 2006 R2 DVD art:

Another, rather less gaudy take on Sodom and Gomorrah using (I think) the British poster.

I made some very slight adjustments to Sodom and Gomorrah.

Yep, the British quad - probably the best of all.

I thought I'd have another go at Jaws, why I didn't do this the first time is beyond me.

And here's one for the "Tribute to Victor Young" album

Spectacular! Thanks Chris.

Feel like having a go at Tora! Tora! Tora! ??? (RSNO of course) smile

I'll try, but please remember I'm not really very good at this, my covers are a bit hit and miss (mostly miss) however as you ask so politely I'll give it a go. Just don't expect wonders. smile

It's the best I could do with that image, I'm afraid I only have "paint" on my computer, so editing pictures is difficult, so my apologies if it's not suitable.

This one was easier, so I tried with this as well.

I may come back to these in a while, meanwhile you can always hope that raferjanders will have a go, he's much better at cover design than I am.

Your covers look great, Chris. Thanks for taking the time and effort. In fact I like 'em all! I'm also a novice, so I appreciate all the custom covers being posted here, especially when one asks and is responded to so kindly. I would post some of mine, but am too embarrassed, and I also don't know how... smile

What applications do you use to create your covers?

I use Paint and patience.

To post covers use this;

https://ctrlq.org/images/

Upload you covers to there, then all you have to do is
I hope that makes sense, anyway try it and see what happens, it doesn't cost anything.

You'll soon figure it out. smile

Chris, your revised Jaws cover is much better. The process is one I suffer with on a daily basis - refinement and .... finality haha. Covers you've posted will sometimes require further editing as your own quality levels change, it's only natural. Image hosting? I recently tried a successful 30-day free trial on Imageshack which was excellent but am now using Flickr - also free - though your choice could come in very handy. I use GIMP to make everything, the free version of Photoshop, there's nothing better out there. Tora!Tora!Tora!? I'm intrigued by the possibilities as there's so much great artwork available. I recently got the film on Blu-ray and it's stunning.

Thanks Chris. Must say you've done well using only Paint. One wouldn't say, judging by the results.

I use Adobe PhotoDeluxe for retouching and compositing (a free Jurassic-era dumbed down version of PhotoShop that was bundled with my first CD-R drive), Word for the text and IrfanView for scaling. I can spend hours on a project, must be therapeutic for me I suppose.

I've tried GIMP but I'm afraid it's beyond me, having no formal training in graphic design.

Indeed, there's an embarrassment of riches when it comes to Tora key art, especially some of the foreign posters.

I too own the BD, it's still all nicely shrink-wrapped. Still haven't gotten around to spinning it. Typical!

Beautiful Dirty Harry covers!

Where do you guys get your poster art from (apart from just Googling, that is)?
