Yep, emusician, I'm entertained by the show "warts and all." We already know it isn't High Art going in, and if I wasn't entertained each Sunday, I would not have watched for it all of these past seasons.

I enjoy the show too, a lot. Then again, I'm a sucker for zombie apocalyptic stories in the first place. And the show is generally very well written and features interesting characters.

Deputy is right. This probably should be on the other side.

SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERS AHEAD ABOUT THE LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE. Don't read if you haven't seen it. I'm not going to black out everything so DON'T read if you haven't seen it.

We now saw the mid-season finale last night. Parts seemed like filler and parts were very good.
I wish the directors would direct Negan a bit differently. I grow weary of his constant what I would call "leanings" to the right, back and to the left. Just stand straight to deliver his lines. He moves like he has back problems.

Anyway it was a bloody night, of course. I must say I was yelling "Yahoo!" during the last 10 minutes. How wonderful to see Rick's core group (what is left of them) finally understand that they could not accept passivity anymore no matter what the cost. Being totally submissive was no longer an option and would not guarantee life. Negan is just too far gone and unpredictable. Time to rally the forces. Also the music during that last scene was very good.

Eh.. The music during that moment sounded like it was temp tracked it with Zimmer's "Time" from Inception.

Perhaps, but it was still good. It worked.

More spoilers. "dont read" as if any of you do anyway! wink

ive seen the season close now and the worm has turned. About time, was what me and probably most of the other viewers thought.
Joanie, Once they all started cuddling and pairing up with little knowing smiles - it was like disney animals falling in love. I was waiting for them to hand out sandwiches and start waving lighters!

Lets hope 2nd half of the series really gets going as the big revenge plan takes shape.

Exactly. Killing off some of the main men has allowed them to explore the women in more depth especially last night. I really liked that. A female zombie show! Love Seth Gillian's character in this last episode too. Bear's music for the last scene was also used in the escape from the zombies in the Alexandria cliffhanger. A slow melancholy build from sorrow to hope.

Maybe everyone hasn't seen this season's finale yet. I liked the music for the finale. This season was a hit and miss for me. Some good episodes and some fillers, and last night there were some surprises. Hope you watchers will chime in when you finish this season's final episode.

This year more than most, there was some great John Carpenter style stuff, especially in last night's finale. Like you said, the series itself is hit and miss, veers wildly in quality. It seems some of the smaller character moments tend to work, but things relating to the zombie main story have some big problems.

But I'm still there, I like most of the cast and still have hope big grin And Melissa McBride will get me to watch anything.

SPOILER IN A THREAD OF SPOILERS - OR AT LEAST A LOT OF MOANING.

Please tell me that wasnt the end of the series last night joanie?!
I thought we were working towards some Negan conclusion but - as ever - its just dragging it on.
I didnt like the blind alleys and whole episodes dedicated to 1 character when the main plot was just left and left.
At the mid season break we felt like they were actually gonna DO SOMETHING but here we are another half dozen episodes later not much further forward.
Its the one thing about good american dramas that ruins it for me - they get a good successful idea and spoil it by eeking everything out to the final degree and then some. Im getting tired of scenes with Negan hovering over someone with his baseball bat - we did all that at the end of the last series.

First of all, I assume we don't have to spoiler-warn in this thread, since it's not a good idea to click on it if you still haven't seen the finale?

.
.
.

With that out of the way:

It's not the end of the series, Bill.

But not sure I'm up for yet another season of dealing with Negan. I mean, I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a brilliant actor, perfect for this role -- but at this point, I'm starting to hate him more than that little prick king in GAME OF THRONES. Enough already -- let him suffer and die!

Yeah on a scale of 1 to 10, prick king being a 30, negan passed that at the end of last series.
Thors right - and i never thought id say that - but enuf already is exactly it.
So if its not the end of the series - how many to go?

I've been watching it for watching's sake for some time now (LOST all over again).
For every 5-10 minutes of interest or excitement, there's 40 minutes of doom, gloom, tedium and boring navel-gazing.
Having said that, I never saw the two main twists coming last night (the Sasha and Scavengers ones), so hat's off to the producers for that*.
I became annoyed with the characters of (P)Rick and Kaaaaarrrrrrrllllllllll eons ago, to the point were I'm almost Team Negan myself now!
And there's no end in sight Bill. The makers have said they will carry on while people continue to watch (and despite a drop/blip after the uber-gory series opening, it's ratings are still pretty high).
As for the next series...IT'S WAR, BOYS!!!!

*the tiger/cavalry scenes were ridiculous though, and just showed how up-down/inconsistent this show is/can be.

It’s a comic book show and they’ve been following the story pretty close to the (very popular) source material. The comics have 166 issues so far; the show is currently at issue 115 in the story line. If you’re looking for realism in a “zombie apocalypse” show, then that should have been put to bed the moment Rick woke up from his coma in episode one.

True, but the zombies have virtually NOTHING to the do with the show now, other than provide the occasional shock death.
You could quite easily remove them from the series and it would continue as it is.

Again, the show runners playbook is the comic and people are very much the bigger threat in those as well. If the show ever reaches the comics current story line, then zombies will again play a very big part.

Personally, after the current story arc is over (presumably season 8), then I would deviate from the comic and come up with a end game plan and do no more than 2 seasons to wrap it up.

As many things as the show does poorly, usually there's a few good moments in each episode. The last episode when the bad haircut leader of the Mopey Gibberish Hippies looked at Rick and declared "I will lay with him" and Rick just looks at her with an expression of "What the F - no, um, no thanks " was priceless.

I stopped watching after last season because it was so bad, but saw a few episodes of this year as I've been over at friends who kept watching. What I saw was mostly awful. The hilarious nadir being a large band of people who seemingly live in the worlds biggest scrap heap rubbish dump and all act like they have concussion "Me am us guns you give." (That may be a direct quote). They all walked silently in patterns and wore grey and looked like they were looking for their missing synthesizers. Just rubbish. Did they ever explain what the problem was with the way they spoke? Then there was another with a commune of women "join us, we need your guns! With your army we can defeat Negan!" Said army ran screaming and cowering into a forest unarmed and were all captured inside of 2 minutes. My god it's a really badly written and structured show.

The music however was frequently great! Several moments really leapt out during what I saw. Not sure if I'll be seeing a finale episode but they really need to fire the show runners at the very least. Is there no walking dead CDs like there for Game of Thrones?
