I just got my copy this morning. Apparently they had tried to deliver it three days ago but they didn't leave me any notification, so I had to go collect it from the sorting depot.
I'm about an hour in... I can't see this album not being played every day for the next couple of months. One of my all-time Holy Grails. Thank you, La-La Land. Thank you.
On a related note, any word on the Donald Rubinstein DAWN OF THE DEAD album?
Another question: Any idea where this alternate mix might have come from?
Told ya so ;-) That mix may be from the 45 single b-side, paired with The World Inside Your Eyes.
Never heard that one before :-0
It's definitely not from the 45 (which i have). This one consists of "The World Inside Your Eyes" and "The Dead Walk", both are shortened versions as opposed to the album originals.
Does the intro to the main title on the CD contain the pulsating 'helicopter' synth effects as heard in the film? On the album version that part is hardly audible and I've always wondered why. I think it sounds much better as heard in the film.
Can anyone tell us where the DAY OF THE DEAD score was found? It was lost, other than the LP master when the Numenorean CD was released. I'm just curious if anything else was uncovered with it, like extra CREEPSHOW cues.
There are several threads regarding this release but I'll go with this one…
I finally got around to both re-watching this movie (I haven't seen it in probably 25 years!) and then popping in the CD. What a wonderful experience. The film was so much better than I remember it. I was able to read so much more into the different characters and their motivations. I know that Romero had much bigger aspirations for this movie but had to drastically scale it down due to lack of funds stemming from his unwillingness to make the film with an R rating. Still, I think the end result is an amazingly effective movie.
The score was wonderful! I'm so glad to finally get to hear it in its entirety. The music fits perfectly with the film and definitely adds to the overall enjoyment. I miss the sound of electronic scores from the early and mid-80's. This score reminded me quite a bit of the music for They Live!
For those on the fence with buying this one I urge you to reconsider. Watch the movie again and then give the score a listen. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
This was a terrific release from La-La Land. I only wish it included the instrumental of "The World Inside Your Eyes" as heard in the film over the end credits. I much prefer that over the vocal version.

If you make it through the final music and FX track on the previous CD, it's on there. I ripped it into a separate file and dropped it into my Romero playlist.
Yeap, this is a year-round horror score. Excellent music, superb sound. Sometimes I really can't believe this score has actually been released—it was on my want list for so many years.

It's one of my all-time favourites. Like, top three. Maybe number one.
There are too many horror movies on my "need to watch" list, but I'm planning to cross this one off soon. The score sounds intriguing (for lack of a better adjective), and I LOVE Creepshow. What do you say, chaps? Should I keep my eye on this if Varese doesn't deliver the goods on Monday?
Oh you should definitely watch Day of the Dead before Halloween. For a long time that was actually my favorite of Romero's original three (nowadays I pretty much consider them all equal; it's just too difficult to choose). But if you're on the fence about the music, hearing the score in context in the film will seal the deal. Nothing like a good undead horde to accompany those dread-instilling beats—and despite the setting the Jamaican flavor really does have context!
https://youtu.be/xoNZRDHHPxc I don't know why, but what I really love is that beat at 0:20. I listened last night and that part's been stuck in my head since. It just sounds cool!
