The film is another superhero movie in ancient Egyptian dress. The score is a bit better than most of the superhero movies. Still, THE EGYPTIAN this ain't.

Why didn't they use the final poster??? That's a truly ugly cover... The poster art matches the horrible looking film. HOWEVER, they did release an IMAX poster which is gorgeous. So..... I quickly made a custom cover using that poster. BTW, the score is sensational! -Erik- Cool cover Erik, I'll be using this one!

NOT SOLD OUT at Varese! The wording should have said OUT OF STOCK like normal, but for some reason it said SOLD OUT. Must be in the code of the backend website stuff. Everything is good, not sold out buy it wherever your heart desires

When Beltrami did his first Scream, that sort of dissonance was fresh. I loved it. When he did Mimic, I fell in love with the dark melodies and lyricism in this score. Since then, I have listened to every single one of his scores. I Robot was an okay Adams approximation. Knowing is still one of the great disaster scores, and films, with a huge final 15 minutes. I have been a bit disturbed by Del Toro's comments, saying that everytime he worked with Beltrami, he had to push him hard to produce quality work. Since Die Hard 4, all Beltrami scores have been lacking outside of Knowing. I can listen to them once but they are totally interchangeable with Tyler or any manner of youtube or tv music - notwithstanding the Tommy Lee Jones work which does give me hope. Not great work to listen to but still innovative. So I was expecting this one like a rapid fan. What I found was the following: Fine theme. Some bombast. That was that. This is not Mummy Returns in any way or frigging shape. My First Bus Ride. End Credits. Where is that kind of music here? This comprises of totally anonymous riffs on a bit of orientalism, cheap choirs, endless banging, themes that would make Tyler blush with embarrassment, not because he could not come up with them, but because they sound even lazy for his calibre of music. Beltrami is part of that generation of composers that grew up on the greats but now have to be studio yes-men. I guess it is a solid job. Perhaps he needs to score his life as an endless Office Space of mediocrity.

Thoroughly enjoying this. Great mix of percussion and themes. The last 3 movie tracks (Obelisk Fight 1, 2 and God of the Impossible) make for fantastic listening. The album is then rounded off by 2 of the main themes in their own suites.
