I don't even listen to the samples. Can't remember the last time I did. I know this score is great and I don't wanna hear it till it's in my CD player at home!

Same here. I never listen to audio samples. Definitely don't need them to make a decision on this score.

smile

Yeah. I think the only time a sample has swayed me was on The Split. I had no idea what the score was like.

Just to give my two cents on sound samples: I always used to look forward to FSM announcements just to hear the sound samples on their latest rescue but I hardly ever listen to FSM sound clips any more. Yes, 60 seconds is more generous than 30 but I would rather have a select few complete tracks (a la the RealPlayer days) because I see no point in clicking on 35 different 60 second samples that cut off annoyingly sometimes before the music really gets going. I guess Intrada has found a good middle ground, at least.

Yavar

I agree. Intrada has the best sample system of all of the specialty labels: fewer samples, longer samples, and samples that can be played continuously without having to use unique plugins in specified browsers. And my less-than-golden ears find nothing wrong with their sample quality.

gee, i always have mucho problems w/.Intrada.
go figger?

I strongly disagree with this. I'm always battling a vulgar, internal dialogue when my favorite cue is not presented in the form of a sample. I adore FSM for allowing us to hear each and every one. I hope they continue this trend, and perhaps they'll have their preference bleed onto the floors of others... eventually.

I'd like to second the request for better sounding clips. They should certainly be indicative of the quality you're purchasing; even the 160 kbps suggestion might not do justice to the restoration work of so many of these great releases. Perhaps shorter clips would be a sufficient compromise?

I don't want to live with the clips, but I do want them to encourage my buy. That's what they're there for. smile

"Don't abuse your sampling privileges."

I love Larry David; an entirely underrated, comedic philosopher, if you were to ask me.

Never mind all this serious sound clip discussion, there simply isnt enough Is it safe on here.

Everyone should be saying it.

Today is officially 'Is it safe' day!

I'd like to see as many posters on this forum as possible posting Is it safe? on this thread.

What a great thread. See how many we can get!! ha ha.
All part of the celebration of the release of Marathon Man!

Underrated? I believe CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM has gained an immense amount of praise:

An eighth season has just been confirmed to be aired in 2011.
But yes, Larry David is an absolutely brilliant writer and a comedic genius.

And back to the original topic, one question comes to mind:

"Is it safe?"

How great to finally see these scores released -- its too bad Michael isn't alive to see all these recent CDs of his music come to fruition, but I am sure he is smiling!

How 'bout a little Parallax love, hmm?

I'll be honest Allardyce, marathon man I love, and have seen probably a dozen times and adore the score. Parallax View I struggled to get through once in the 70s on TV - doesnt someone go out of a window in it ? - I found it hard going, although I was young at the time so maybe wasnt mature enough to follow it - and simply dont remember much score in it. Perhaps it was typically low-key Small music in that in created atmosphere without being obvious? Either way Im sure I'll enjoy the CD when it arrives.

PS is it safe.

Is it just me and my Parallax programming but is the sound of the alarm from the dam one of the most tense scenes? Joe Frady battling the sheriff...love it and this score.
