I'd be more than happy to pay for an upgrade to UPS Air Mail in order to get this quicker.

Hi Gang,

The signing event with Ron Jones today at Dark Delicacies was fun and we distributed the first copies.

The entire shipment has to be trucked from L.A. to SAE in Virginia and I'm afraid that will take up the next week. So look for orders to ship from SAE the week of the 27th.

Thanks for your patience!

Lukas

You plan to take your Star Trek sets out of LA... a rig big enough to haul that fat tank of Ron Jones music... what a puny plan! Look around you. This ... is the valley of NERDS! Humungus will not be defied...

If you've never seen any of the Star Trek TNG episodes (especially the ones Ron Jones wrote for), it may not be worth it. This type of music is not for everyone.

Lukas,

Good to know about when shipping will begin for these sets. I'm eagerly awaiting my copy to come. smile

How is the music

In a style like Giacchino

beutifull themes waved in and out underscore music

or is it just underscore music with no central themes

I mention Giachino because he had to start from scratch with an all new film-series (reboot).

Personally I think the music that Ron Jones did for TNG was pretty damn good.

I wouldn't say a style like Giacchino's, it's a bit different than Giacchino's style.

There are definitely themes in each of the episodes he wrote for.

It is different I like Ron Jones but I dont love him, hes got quite a bit of good stuff here thats represented in this Box.
and along with being a Soundtrack Geek , I Love Star Trek.
so it got me on both ends, hehe.
listen to Best of Both Worlds and you will have a good representation of his music.

Shipping tomorrow, yes?

Pretty sure they're shipping as soon as they get to Screen Archives, which they're hoping is this week. But no, I don't believe they're shipping tomorrow.

Are there beautiful themes to be found among Ron Jones music for TNG? Absolutely, check out cues in "Data's Day", "The Offspring", "When The Bough Breaks" and "Up The Long Ladder".

Are these themes woven in and out of the score? Yes, often with an additional secondary motif, both specific to the episode for which they written, though Jones also had recurring themes for Klingons, Romulans, Borg, the Goldsmith and Courage "Trek" themes and even one for Ensign Wesley Crusher.

The music itself does not sound like Giacchino at all, however, but I think the music has a lot to offer. Jones has stated that his model when composing for TNG was Goldsmith, therefore the music is constructed in a theme-and-variations mode, the action cues are built from repeating ostinatos and there is a healthy amount of synthesizers added to the orchestra.

However, this series was not quite "started from scratch", as you say, in the same manner as the recent Star Trek 2009 film. There was still much effort in the first season specifically to emulate the original series in style and tone, right down to the music. They were not reinventing the wheel when TNG began, but eventually it did find its own style apart from the original show and this is when it really soared.

Sorry for the delay. These box sets always confound everyone's estimates for manufacturing. The boxes are shipping only today from L.A. to SAE in Virginia -- a five-day transit. They should ship from SAE to customers early next week. Thanks for your patience.

I googled it and this is what came up. It seems to have reached Albuquerque and now has to avoid running into the Borg and the Romulans. Best bet is going through the nebula straight ahead!
