Yeah, it is worth the upgrade. The expanded Intrada disc isn't a revelation, but the additional music is fine and it sounds great.
And if you don't like the synth approach fine, but that whole "the score is anachronistic to the period" is silly. Ben Hur's score is also anachronistic to the time period. So let's hate that one too, right ?
Love the expanded version to one of my favorites. Just wish the short cue when the team measures the finals basket(forget the actual name) didn't have so much hiss.
If you're like most of the rest of us and want a full representation of a score, including a lot of very lovely bits simply not even hinted at in the original album, get it.
If you are a fan of this score, then this release is an excellent upgrade. The softer moments, especially the cue, "Someone I Know" really round out the album and make it an excellent listening experience. This still remains one of my favorite Jerry Goldsmith scores. Yes, the synth parts are cheesy and sometimes distracting, but the main theme is vintage Goldsmith. I was ecstatic to get the full score for this and the upgrade is highly recommended, but it all depends on how much you really like this score. I feel like the softer moments really help improve an already great score. Now bring on a complete Rudy!

I recently found the TER CD in a bargain bin and loaded it onto my iPod, and wow, I'm listening to it quite a bit now and really liking it. Guess I must pony up the money for the Intrada CD, LOL.

Hopefully, the equally inspiring "Hoosiers Suite" for orchestra will come out someday on CD.
How wonderful would it be to have a new CD suites and themes compilation with "Hoosiers Suite", "QBVII Suite", "Suite from Timeline", "The Omen: Narrative for Chorus and Orchestra", etc.?

I added it to my iPod and have it on in the background right now.
Just rewatched the movie, I still think it's an absolute sin that the first portion of the finals is tracked over! Same with the end title, it's a really cringe copy-paste at points.
I'd love to see this re-released without the album assemblies. Not sure if there's more missing than the film version beginning to "Town Meeting"...there's a short cue that plays when Dale first goes to Shooter's home, and it doesn't sound like it was tracked in. I also wonder about the synth beginning of "The Finals" which plays earlier in the same scene as "Free Shot"
Not sure I will double dip. At least this will have to stay on the back burner for some time. To many other things take priority. But keep the Goldsmith scores coming!

Absolutely changed my perspective on this score. The expansion fleshes out the organic elements of the music.
