There's the BBC's 'Upstart Crow' which is a sitcom about Shakespeare's household:

Sometimes almost self-consciously laboured, but many good jokes.

OK, so almost finished SUPERSTORE (I see that a 3rd season is starting shortly). Fairly breezy walkthrough, although it was a bit run-of-the-mill to have me binge watch. But it's OK.

Moving on THE GOLDBERGS, which I've seen bits of when it's been on Norwegian TV. It didn't really connect with me then, but I'm willing to give it another go.

OK, didn't need to see more than one episode of THE GOLDBERGS to understand that my initial reaction was correct. What is it about all these American sit-coms that have constant yelling and screaming? Not my cup of tea at all, despite appealing to my 80s nostalgia.

Moving on to THE GOOD PLACE, then, which I've seen advertised on Netflix, I think.

You may want to give Kevin Can Wait another chance. They fired the actress that played his wife in the first season and hired Leah Remini to replace her. Can't even make this stuff up. King of Queens 2.0?

Whoa, for real? That's intriguing. I'll put it back on the list, and get to it when I start going through the list alphabetically again (with all the new suggestions).

Yeah, it's weird. I thought it was a joke at first. They brought in Leah Remini as a guest star in the two-part season finale and the ratings supposedly went way up (even though Kevin Can Wait was the #1 rated new comedy based on viewership numbers). Her guest appearance was as you can imagine....she was emotionally abusive and sarcastic to Kevin's character. It was pretty funny.

THE GOOD PLACE was a pretty nice show. Interesting (and actually quite scary) premise, but involving storyline. And I love anything Ted Danson is in. The second season just started, so I'm going to follow this.

Meanwhile, moving on to the next on the list -- THE GREEN WING. Not a fan of hospital shows, but maybe the quintessential Britishness of this will keep me watching.

I hope you find surreal funny. I did.

I love surreal. In fact, it often doesn't get surreal ENOUGH.

Good - Green Wing is actually very smartly written, but there are touches that someone who doesn't appreciate the surreal might just find silly. I find it gloriously funny throughout.

I think I started watching GREEN WING, but it came out either around or just after SCRUBS had established itself and seemed like a poor man's knock-off.
The first 3 or 4 series of SCRUBS were fantastic, although it did decline in later seasons.
But I'm no Superman!
Have you seen or included SCRUBS, Thor?

Yes, I tried to tune in and out of SCRUBS on occasion. I didn't care much for it, I'm afraid.

Green Wing is wonderful, but I wouldn't call it surreal in the strictest sense. It's EXAGGERATION of stuff all too common in hospitals. The OCD manic consultant, the jaded secretary, the wonderful Sue White liaison officer who's on another planet, literally, the pressure-relieving humour of the junior docs. So it's real satire. Forget hospital sitcoms, it's better.

Saw the first episode now.

I have some issues with it. First of all, I think 50 minutes is too long for a comedy show like this (which is more about individual skits or character quirks than storylines). Second, the sound quality was rather bad, and some of the dialogue was rather slurred or quick, so there was quite a lot I didn't get (there were no subtitles). Finally, there was little sense of "place", which is something I look for in any sit-com.

But beyond that, it had some laughs, even LOL moments. Lots of actors and actresses here that have since gone on to great fame. I quickly got used to the speed-up/slow-down visual tricks. I agree with William that it isn't really surreal, but more satire. I'm going to give it another couple of episodes, at least.

'Toast of London' is now available on Netflix US and UK, all three series. It's proving popular both sides of the Pool:

It's got everything from surreal to poignant to satire to slapstick. And it's close to truth of the acting profession.

The submarine episode is the best. Where they managed to work his vouch over gig back into the action at the end. I really liked the first series but less so the second, and the third I'd have to rewatch, as I remember not liking it that much at all.

I can personally vouch that all the voice-over scenes throughout the series are commonplace events. It's the one part of the show that's no exaggeration!

After having tried two episodes of GREEN WING, I'm calling it quits. It simply doesn't suit my needs for this kind of show (largely due to its excessive length).

On to THE JIM GAFFIGAN SHOW, I guess, if I can find it.

I highly recommend a think-outside-the-box sitcom from 2014 called Garfunkel and Oates. There are only eight episodes, but they are gems. I saw it in first run; it should be on Netflix or something now.

Didn't particularly care for THE JIM GAFFIGAN SHOW either (following a family with 5 kids! No thank you). One episode was enough. On to THE KROLL SHOW.
