I keep listening to the final track over and over. After Empire, it might be my favorite SW finale. Totally agree. And Jeff's post is spot on. I totally agree with his points. The Force Awakens is a terrific film experience for me, a filmgoer that saw the original 1977 release when I was 9 years old.

Damn! I just can't stop listening to this CD. It's the first Star Wars score since TESB that I can't get out of my head. Never, ever thought that John Williams would pull off another one that addicting. I like the prequel scores, but this one has more Star Wars in "his little finger" that the whole prequel scores in "the whole hands"... imho

That whole tag at the very end of the credits… definitely my favorite Star Wars sign-off since Empire.

Terrific album... guess those rumors of a more deluxe release coming out early 2016 aren't true. Boo. What makes you say that? Sit tight!

…The Resistance and Bombing Run pieces from the FYC. Boggles me that they were left off the commercial release. Because they're represented on the album by more fleshed-out concert arrangements. Williams often does this sort of thing. “Promenade: Tourists On the Menu” and “Out To Sea” from Jaws, “The E.T. and Me” from E.T., and “The Forest Battle” from Return of the Jedi are all examples.

Ashamed to admit my source was a Best Buy rep. When he searched for the Force Awakens album in the store last month he saw on his computer that there was another 2cd Awakens release set for Jan. For shame, John. Best Buy doesn't know anything about anything.

I agree that those are arresting cues, and I am very glad to have them, but I do understand why the album is presented the way that it is. If both the concert and film cues were present, the album would be much more repetitive than it is. And as has been mentioned, this is perhaps one of the most concise Star Wars soundtrack albums since The Empire Strikes Back — certainly not the frustrating mess that was the original soundtrack album for The Phantom Menace.

That actually confirms my feeling Abrams wanted Giacchino. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Williams, though I can understand his loyalty to Giacchino. I honestly don't know how you're getting that from what he said. Come now, Schiffy, don't act completely baffled by that comment. While I do think that it is somewhat of a leap at this early stage of the game to make that assumption, it is also easy enough to infer from Abram's comments that he wanted Giacchino but was not given the choice by the higher powers that be. That's true. He also wanted Drew Struzan to paint the poster, rather than that crappy, committee computer generated garbage they saddled him with. Disney were still calling the shots, despite giving him the 'final cut' of the film.
