Mego Star Trek Bridge and Vulcan Shuttle Toy Commercial:

I did own the "Decker" action figure because he looked "cooler" than Kirk.

"All sold separately." DAMN! Funny thing is, the guy hosting the ad is today's "target demographic" for these toys.

The Dr. McCoy figure's jammies could have been rendered better: "Damn it Jim, I'm wearin' a peplum!"

Peter Pan Records already had a series of "original" audio adventures before TMP's release. With the film's release, they updated their LP covers with TMP imagery with the previously-released stories. This episode's score makes use of Holst.

The whole sordid story can be found here:

http://www.danhausertrek.com/Records/Records.html

(an FSMer or two posted comments on that site; yes, it surprised me, too)

I had a couple of those! Love the (original) cover artwork.

I thought that the actor playing Kirk did a great job doing a Shatner voice, until I heard the same actor on a Peter Pan story of Kojak; he didn't even bother to change his voice!

Mego Star Trek Action Figures Commercial:

This ad includes the entire Mego Overcompensation family of sci-fi action figures (Buck Rogers, The Black Hole):

I don't remember any of these ads as a kid, though I had more than a few of the figures at the time.

Oh, now I want the Black Hole pocket size robots.

I seem to remember The Graduate was recommended to get into 'plastics' as the big thing of the day. I can see Benji in a Palitoy boardroom, outlining all the lucrative possibilities of the TMP Enterprise. That sparks an interesting thought. Which is the more popular: USS Enterprise or The Millennium Falcon? They have equal standing IMO - both have interesting aspects of design centred around the 'flying saucer' concept.

But I wonder which one Mrs. Robinson would choose.

They'd both have to 'sleep' on it.

Oh, now I want the Black Hole pocket size robots.

Those and the Buck Rogers figures were not as well constructed as the Star Trek (and Star Wars) figures. However, the former did have greater poseability. Well, except for VINCENT and Maximilian. They were desperately latching on to any sci-fi/fantasy property after having refused Star Wars.

Kudos to Mego for actually making Anthony Perkins and Ernest Borgnine action figures, though!

Hey zoob, that looks like a much more recent commercial Star Trek product. Do you have anything from 1979-80?

Your right, 1997. How odd. Was that an anniversary year? Interesting it comes with a V'ger probe too.

You know a lot of toy companies believe female action figures don't sell. I don't think there's a Black Widow from the "MCU", and there's no Astrid "From How To Train Your Dragon". There's static figurines, but not action figures.

I have the Original One-Sheet Movie Poster. I was lucky to be working at the Century 21 Dome Movie Theater in 1979 selling advanced tickets to the movie which played at Century 22. The manager Mr. Gudmunson was very nice and always gave me posters whenever they had multiples and for STAR TREK TMP we got a few, so he gave me one. Also got the Original Theater Program and I purchased the Topps Collectors Cards. I think I have the "Rainbo Bread" versions too. Were they the same? Just recently purchased the ST TMP Photostory Book on ebay for $6.00. Interestingly the scenes featuring Vulcan Science Officer Sonak and the Tragic Transporter Malfunction Incident do not appear in the Book. Of course I bought the Original Soundtrack on LP as soon as it was released at my local Tower Records. I used to get several Soundtrack LP's free from Tower as I worked out a cross promotion deal with them, when I worked at Century 23 and would display any Soundtracks of movies that happened to be playing at our Theater. "Soundtrack Available at Tower Records on Bascom Ave". Loved the smell of new LP albums!

Great beauty, irritating voice when she became the V'Ger Probe. Her G-string is still smiling. Rest in Peace Persis.

You know a woman is amazingly beautiful when she still looks great while wearing those hideous TMP costumes (though the one in the photo above is futuristically cool in a 1979 sort of way).

I remember those Trek photo books!

I know you were asking Zoob not me, but I had all three Star Trek TMP model kits, Refit Enterprise, Klingon Cruiser, and Vulcan Shuttle.

Technically there's a fourth model kit in the series. An original TOS AMT/Aurora Spock model kit, which they butchered and half ass sculpted to look something like Spock from TMP. They also shrunk the base and omitted the three headed snake.

TOS version: http://img.trekmovie.com/images/merchandise/r2-spock.jpg
TMP version: http://www.heliocracy.com/components/museumimg/spock79.jpg

I still have the View Master ST:TMP set as well as the Topps cards. (Probably not a complete set though) I had the LP and cassette of course. I thought I had the photobook but now I'm not sure.

How sure are we that this box cover is not a fun Photoshop hoax?

I'm thinking of the vinyl LP covers for individual Star Trek episode scores, with convincing ring-wear and everything. And the DeForest Kelley singing album ("I'm Here for You") that never existed. And an imaginary paperback book cover purporting to be the Bantam novelization of Star Trek "Arena" (the one with the Gorn), that fooled Marc Cushman into including the web image in These are the Voyages: Season One as if it were real.

I purchased the model kit off of Ebay about a decade ago, but since gave it to a friend to sell. I could only find one photo of the actual model in an image search, and the modeler altered it a bit. But the box shows the accurate depiction of the kit that comes out of the box.

The TMP Topps cards were the one set I did not keep! Kind of wish I still had them, though. big grin

As for "asking zooba", this thread is for anyone who wishes to contructively participate in it. smile
