So it turns out I'm going to meet up personally with at least one Brit while I'm there.

So is England still suffering from the effects of WW II? Should I bring them supplies, like cigarettes, butter and sugar? Will that get me their endless gratitude? smile

I was expecting Bill Carson to tell me "no" to this.

To which I was going to reply: "Billy-Bob, you have once again put a wet blanket on my plans to fulfill my movie-related stereotypes of London. First I can't re-live THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY. Now I'm shut out of MRS. MINIVER. Next you're going to tell me that "Swinging London" was over 50 years ago. big grin"

Mrs TG will be happy with nylons and the rest of us will take chocolate!

And you need to stand by one of the bridges in London and say loudly in your worst southern drawl "Hey is this the bridge we shoulda bought!"

Mind you speaking loudly and performing is the new "look at me" trend. Its mostly foreigners who do it constantly but plenty brits have started it, especially the towie wannabees, the silly girls with tench-lip botox.

Is there a "public library" in London?

That is, the one that the general public uses, as opposed to The British Library, (which sounds like a giant museum/archive/cathedral of an institution). I like visiting public libraries.

You'll have to come down and show us how it's done, Your Grace. big grin

I'll be daring in Dublin and Dusseldorf shortly. Flying to Dublin and landing Saturday evening with four nights there and then heading to Dusseldorf for 3 nights before one night in Brussels and heading home.

Public libraries are everywhere. Look up your local wherever you are staying.

Am assuming DavidinBerkeley is flying to London today or tomorrow. Have a good trip David!

Alas, I see John Williams has pulled out of conducting the concert.

Yes, and on a more newsworthy note, I have to postpone--not cancel--my Ireland visit until 2020.

Just think of it as getting an extra year in which to save the £££ to buy me that pint.

And did I read other posts correctly? DinB finally made the trip to Old Blighty?!?

Glad to hear it. smile

I also ate something that came in a package, and they called it "Bubble and Squeak."

What a ridiculous name for a foodstuff! smile

I saved the front of the package to put in my scrapbook, because with a name like that, it'll never last. smile

So why did I see almost no one walking a dog in London? That was odd.

A keen observation. Dogs are rather more sophisticated in Britain. They have better things to do than sniffing hydrants à la their American counterparts.

When walking the dogs I take a bag & gloves - owners who are not willing too dispose poop get fined.
