Kraftwerk rules!

You should play the wonderful Tour de France album -- especially now that the TDF is actually going on.

Jools' big band adds an extra dimension to this music.

It's always worth remembering that although pop songs (and this one's good anyhow) aren't written for big ensembles, there's no reason why a 'best possible' arrangement can't exist when all the resources pull together.

Yer old Glenn Miller style band stuff didn't always go post-impressionist with the brass dissonances, or favour minor keys and flattened intervals, because the old song style was romantic and major and happy, and the harder stuff appeared when the brass band had fallen out of favour, but it can revolutionise a song when all the tricks are pulled.

COMPANY, one of my favourite Sondheim's. Love that OBC Recording as well.

Good to see you're still working your way through that box, Gary. I've put out the feelers that's on my list for my birthdaysmile

I gave this a spin last night for the first time in ages. Classic...

I'm 3 cds away from Hello Dolly. The next 3 after Fiddler are the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls with Nathan Lane, Gypsy (OBC) and Hair (OBC)

Nick Drake- PINK MOON (1972)

Great for late night or early morning listening. In my case, I've done both over the past twelve hours--and over the past twenty one years.

Granted, Don can't sing as good as he used to. George isn't in the band anymore, and albums 2 through 4 by the band are classics. All that aside BROKEN BONES by DOKKEN is a wonderful effort !

This isn't a patch on the original. Some of it works quite well, some not at all. Joss Stone and Maverick Sabre (I haven't heard of him either) do a decent job.

Beck- "Mutations"

I hadn't heard this in ages, but back in 1999 I used to play this album *constantly*. I am not ordinarily a fan of his music, but Mutations is just outstanding. Maybe it's because Beck doesn't "rap" on this one.

Favorite song: "Dead Melodies"
