Is one the score masters, and the other a rerecording? I have both albums in front of me. They should have identical contents, though the 2nd album also contains 'Horton Hears a Who' from 1969. The 2nd album specifically indicates 1966 and 1969 recording dates, Eugene Poddany conducting. Since the 2nd album is a Turner Classic Movies/Rhino release with the recording dates and such, I am willing to take it as original tracks. The 1st album does make a show of being 'digitally re-mastered' (and produced by Chuck Jones and Theodore Geisel). I seriously doubt it was re-recorded/re-created. Play the first track of both if you can and notice how different the main theme sounds. Not only in sound quality, but in instrumentation. The White Album moves into the narration before the Green Album is even done singing 'Trim up The Tree', and the instrumentation sounds a bit different. The White Album is in stereo while the Green Album is mono. The sound of the White Album is brighter where the Green Album is bit boomier and less open at the high-end. The program tracks for the Green album runs 26:21, the proper running time for a 30 min show in the 60s. The White Album program is only 21:36. The White Album seems to swap the opening Narration with Trim... and @4 min the two synch up again (for a while, I didn't listen to the whole thing). My DVD has the same artwork as the Green Cover CD and runs Credit, Trim..., and then Narration (and runs 25:40. I suspect the Green Album is the uncut episode, while the White Album shuffles up the program for a 'better listening experience'. At that rate it could very well contain alternate takes (but I doubt they had more than 3-4 tracks to re-mix and re-master from).    Posted:   Nov 14, 2013 - 7:58 AM     By:   Solium   (Member) Thank you for doing a side by side comparison. Pretty surprised by all of this. I always thought the white album was the complete audio track as heard in the special. It sounded "right" to me, then again it is the one I am used to hearing. It's really close to the real thing as heard in the TV show, but not exactly the same. That's the recording on the "white" Mercury/Polygram CD. There are further developments however. The "green" one originally came out on Rhino, with extra tracks, and also contained HORTON HEARS A WHO. The one you posted a link to is a newer version on Water Tower, without the extra tracks and without HORTON. I saw the green cover and thought it was the same. So there's yet another version with fewer tracks?! I need to see what was on the version I saw at Walmart.
