This might sound like an odd thread to post, but with Henry Mancini being the last film composer to be honored with a postage stamp, this reminds me: with the 10th anniversary of Jerry Goldsmith's death coming up next July, should the U.S. Postal Service honor him with a postage stamp?
I think it would be great, but I also think the reality of it is that Goldsmith never reached the recognizability of a Mancini. Mancini wrote film themes that became part of pop culture like MOON RIVER and THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, DEAR HEART. Goldsmith never had a recognizable song in that fashion, probably THEME FROM THE WALTONS would come closest.
However they did release a series of stamps of Golden Age Composers featuring Alfred Newman, Max Steiner and Franz Waxman amongst others. I remember buying a few sheets of them. So it is possible. I think John Williams would probably be perhaps the next in line to get a stamp if any further film composers were to get one. But of course Gustavo Santaollala would definitely be a strong competitor for that spot!
