Williams recorded 2 other pop/big band albums for Verve, "Heavy Vibrations" and "Think".
I don't recall any of them being released on CD. There was another LP titled "Carry On" but I can't remember the label it was on.

Good to know. Never heard of these! Thanks!

Like Lee Holdridge, he has quite a few soundtrack LP's that haven't made the leap to CD.
Sadly, my vinyl playing days are pretty much behind me. I don't have a turntable set up, my LP's are stored away (for what, I don't quite know), but at least one can usually play a lot of these old LP releases via various websites these days.
I didn't know he wrote the theme to Streets Of San Francisco. That's one cool tune from my childhood.
Hopefully, Cuba will be winging it's way to me soon, via a trade with another FSMer smile

Pat Williams was one of those recognisable musical voices from my early days of discovering film music - particularly made-for-TV movies of the 1970s… SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL, MRS SUNDANCE, TERROR IN THE SKY, HARDCASE… and I particularly loved his bouncy scores for the two comedy westerns HITCHED and LOCK STOCK & BARREL.

Yes, hearing that clip, How Sweet It Is is very Mancini.

Excellent composer. I too await the release of his (and others') Columbo scores, but as for my pick of an album to try out if you're unfamiliar with him...I'd go with Kritzerland's Cuba...just haunting!

I have 3 LPs of his scores I'd like to see on CD:

HOW TO BEAT THE HIGH COST OF LIVING
THE ONE AND ONLY
IT'S MY TURN

Love his music from THE GRASS HARP and his JESUS Mini Series score was wonderful and a great achievement for him as well.

I had an LP of BUTCH AND SUNDANCE which I liked and going way back, I still enjoy popping on my old LP of THE ONE AND ONLY. Never heard CUBA. Patrick Williams is a fine composer!

And let's not forget the "Gulliver" album he did that had narration by Sir John Gielgud!

Disappointed Disney re-released The Muppet Movie soundtrack without any additional music. Love his Flying Dreams from NIMH.

NIMH was Paul Williams.

Shoot, I get those two mixed up all the time.

LOL

I'm sorry to laugh, but if you ever saw these two men standing next to one another you would never get them mixed up again. It would be like Gandalf standing next to Frodo. wink

I don't know what, if any, original Pat Williams music there is in BREAKING AWAY, but I love the way the non-original pieces were adapted and arranged by Williams and would be thrilled with a soundtrack release.

Hear and watch Patrick`s LOU GRANT Season 1 theme again:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EWe9y7nyPM

Note the nice variation of the theme at 1,56-4,36.

And here is a rare arrangment of the Main theme from season 2+3

Enjoy!

A great theme, isn't it?

I wish they'd release LOU GRANT on DVD frown

The second version you posted is, I think, the cover version done by the Daniel Caine Orchestra (aka Derek Wadsworth), which is nice too.

Daniel Cain was Derek Wadsworth???
I truly didnt know.
Allways admired Wadsworth for his great score for SPACE:1999, Year two.

Sadly, it seems that there will never be a Lou Grant DVD release because of political reasons.
Because of the liberal themes and stand of views, but mostly because of Ed Asners political activitys, LOU GRANT was banned from the air in the early 80`s and is even today not loved by 20th Century Fox (now owner of MTM, wich original produced the series).
Truly sad, because its really one of the best series of the 70`s (the characters the acting, stories and the directing is much better and realistic than on many of today`s serious TV-shows).

But you can watch the episodes on amazon.com

Loved the music to this movie. I remember as a teen, I would always go to the record store and thumb thru the soundtracks in the hopes of finding an album to this movie, only to end up disappointed each time.

I believe the score clocks in under 20 minutes so unless it was doubled up with something else...

I hope someone can contribute more to my thread about him arranging for vocalists. He's wonderful at it.

I always liked his noir-ish theme for one of the stories in the 'relaunch' Columbo films, "SEX AND THE MARRIED DETECTIVE...
