This is about the music that plays during the underwater scene

the cue UNDERWATER MAYHEM

in the film it's like the music is replaced by a cleaner cue - is the new to the blu-ray or has it always been like this ?

I'm afraid I don't have an answer, but I DO have another question... on the Blu-ray, which ending music did they use, the real end title (as heard on the CD), or the cut-in James Bond theme. Throughout this film's life on VHS, laserdisc and DVD, the real end title music has made only a few rare appearances. Most home video versions features the James Bond theme.

it's the james bon theme, as it always has been used (in those versions i have seen that is)

Hello again,

The original end title was definitely on at least some of the earlier VHS releases of the film (I still have one), and I believe, one the laserdisc incarnations, although I cannot verify that.

Thunderball has a weird history of variations. Some have different dialogue and the British version from 1965 has the original music score found at the end of the CD. I personally did not care for the original James Bond theme from Dr. No playing at the end of TB because the version Barry recorded is in frame of his score for the film. Now, the Blu-Rays have all been re-mastered and I must say there are changes as well. Sound effects for example, but I have found some music cues to be different. On MGM-HD cable channel Thunderball was shown and the scene where Bond meets Domino underwater has a totally different score cue than the one that is on the Blu-Ray. Underwater Mayhem is slightly different too. So your observation is correct.

BTW, has anyone seen the You Only Live Twice remaster DVD? They added sound effects to the opening space hijack with the Intruder spaceship opening and closing with a mechanical twang. Also the iris from the gunbarrel has a zipper sound as if we are passing through a jacket sleave. Really weird.

Re: "BTW, has anyone seen the You Only Live Twice remaster DVD?"

Only have the initial release of the DVD, and at one point was going to re-buy all the Bonds with Sean Connery on Blu-ray, but haven't gotten around to it. But think I'm going to force myself to be satisfied with just the DVDs -- who has time to watch them again more than once, if that! While I sometimes enjoy a few of the later Bonds, for me, Connery was the REAL James Bond and the others were just pretenders.

If anybody saw the film when it was originally released, the film endedwith "The End Of Thunderball But James Bond Will Return In On Her Majesty's Secret Service", until the Broccoliand Saltzman changed their minds and did"You Only Live Twice" instead, because if you see any of the V.H.S.,D.V.D.or Blu Ray releases, the film slightly fades out after the end credits (all subsequent versions of the film are dupes). I have the V.H.S. version with the gold wraparound band on top of the case that has the original end cast credits music (which, of course is on the expanded edition C.D.).
