Tall Guy,

Awwooo-a-waaaah,

But ummm. I have to ask if you were thrilled to see the most brilliant scientific mind of Krypton take to the skies on his fantastical beastly steed for an action chase sequence, speeding in & out of terrain at impossible speeds...(grin)

Makes you appreciate the real thing _ Avatar - DONT IT?

iF AVATAR is the apotheosis of sc-fi , cgi spectacle, MOS is the nadir.

bruce

HELP! I can`t remember what I posted!

(grin)

Okay - thats true, Avatar, skies full of fanciful chase sequences, dearths of gravitas (gravity, sure, gravitas, no). But I think/suspect that the Avatar series has the Jurassic Park dinosaur spectacle going for it: postulated alien flora & fauna interacting in an unseen ecosystem. A wonderment factor that can make you marvel at catching a glimpse of a new world. Although I suppose that Krypton was also a "new world". Hmmm.

(slightly logistically bothered voice)

Hmmm.

(for-effect restatement voice)

Richard-W, I kind of agree with you, but not on both the personal relationship angle of a Superman and regarding character drive. A hero of uncorruptible fiber is an exceptional mind. Ka-lel didn`t just hop out of his rescue pod and spontaneously do everything Good... it makes sense and is theatrically necessary (as well as opportune) to explore the origins of such. His parents raised him, we could see that. Bullying, suffering, and corruption need to be encountered/experienced in order to develop an absolute dedication to their eradication. The good news is that origin/grow-up sequences that tackle that could also feature the things that taught Ka-lel how wonderful life can be: the clarity of simplicity, the fruits of charity, and as cliche as it might be (holy God we`re in a cynical world!) the joy & warmth of love and how it can help people. Perhaps you are correct in that Warner/Nolan approaches sometimes miss the latter.

Sex could or could not be a part of his life. Although the hot-blooded physics chronicled so often by others are more a concern than the morality!

Regarding the "argument" against Kal-El/Clark and Lois becoming personally involved.

Long gone are the days of "twin-beds" television regulations, wherein even married couples are forbidden to be together.

I think it's a tad naive to think that "Superman" should not have a fulfilled life, including the search for and attaining of a mate.
