So Danny Elfman is credited on a lot of websites and reviews as having done the score for this Matthew McConaughey movie. At least one review I read praises the score.

And yet I watched the movie, and it has very little score and no Danny Elfman credit. In fact, the only music credit (besides licensed songs) reads "Additional Music - Interm├Ęde Music." Additional to what?

What are these critics citing, then? Was Elfman attached to this at some point? Was there simply an erroneous press kit? Or is there some actual story behind this?

This is the first I've heard of Danny being involved with the pic. He's not credited on Focus' official site for the film either.

It seems to be misinformation, but just Google and you'll find it everywhere. I just wonder if there was ever a kernel of truth to it.

Oh wow... I had never heard that Elfman was doing this movie, but I also never heard that he was doing AMERICAN HUSTLE until today either.

I did the Google search that you suggested, and saw Elfman's music referred to in a number of reviews as well. Not sure what's up. But the fact that none of the more "official" websites mention him (including the FYC website) leads me to believe that if he DID compose anything for the movie... it might not be in there anymore! I'm not sure that a composer's name on a movie really sells that many tickets, but I would guess that they'd be flaunting the "get" somewhat if his music was in the flick.

Elfman is not involved at all. I've seen the film, and 99% of the music in it is needle-dropped songs. The only "score-like" piece is an original piano composition called "Prelude", which was written and performed by a lady named Alexandra Streliski, and can be heard on her album Pianoscope.

Thanks, Jon.

It never ceazes to amaze me how these 'rumours' get started. If you click on Danny's IMDB profile, you'll find many films he didn't score, but where the filmmaker may have used some existing music of him or Boingo. Yet he's credited with an original score. Annoying.

During the Oscars ceremony, a lovely theme played when Leto and McConaughey won their awards. Was the piece not from the score?

Mike, I noticed that same melody when they won their Oscars. I too would like to know where that music came from, so I hope someone knows.
