Can't we all just get along? I like and respect Basil, Senn555 (the other Basil), Kim Tong, and LeHah...but sheesh mix 'em in a pot and it's like baking soda and vinegar at best. (Except it doesn't turn out to clean the board...just make it dirtier...so I guess my analogy falls apart.)

I used to have big arguments when I was a young teenager on the Filmtracks board, but they weren't about film music at all -- just politics or Star Wars prequels smile Eventually I grew out of that combative phase and I now get along with the people I used to fight with. Can't we just focus on our shared love of film music and not get in these unseemly tussles?

Yavar

He actually drew music bars on the back cover? How creative, and that is beyond cool!

And don't want to spoil, and those covers are great and certainly mean a lot to you, and that's great!

But it shows the difference of a classical trained composer with craftmenship to an editor you can produce music with computer technology.
This is not a matter of style, but written without knowledge of proper musical notation in a way the likes of Williams and Herrman would not write, could not even write! The keys are missing, and all the accidentals are placed on the wrong spot and there are wrong notes in it.... funny, he is not able to write one of his own themes with his own hands.

You're one hundred percent wrong, actually.

The themes are correct (with the exception of a natural before the g after g# in the first line, which isn't the end of the world). Key signatures are often not used in film music as it is too confusing to sight-read. Rather, incidentals are marked beside the notes, just as done here.

No offense intended, but if you're going to rip the composer a new one, you really ought to have your facts straight.

And asking a film composer to write one of their themes from nearly 8 years ago is akin to asking an author to write down--without looking--their favorite line from a book they wrote a decade ago.

well, what I said, wrong note, G-natural instead of G-sharp, incidentals are not placed where the note is placed they belong to, and there are no clefs.
You are right, times are different today, you don't need to know this or do it to generate music.
That's what I meant.

When you are (generously) decorating an autograph on the back of a little booklet, you don't have to display all your musical literacy. In fact, writing it out super-correct in this context (a fan-friendly doodle) would be a little strange. And Ottman is cool.

I have an autographed booklet of Piranha by Pino Donaggio and he also put the theme on it but his handwriting is so "ruff" it's hard to make out big grin but you can tell it's 'old school'!

What are people thinking about POLICE ACADEMY?

Thinking about not buying it!

(RIMSHOT)

No, no, no -- I kid. It's selling very well. About half the run is gone.

MV

What about the other titles, MV?

Karol

Great. LW is close to being out of stock until 2014. Gunfight is out of stock but more will be in Friday or Monday (the last batch of it)

Superman is flying the highest, though with nearly 2000 units out the door.

Is it possible to order the Lethal Weapon after Christmas? Are there still many units? With so many releases ...

Yes, ALL titles will be around after X-mas, but I don't know for how long.

Mine just arrived today.

Wow. That's impressive. Not too familiar with the image of Reeve in costume with the flag. What release was this?

My copy of Superman Returns has finally arrived, here in the UK.

Anybody else had any problems playing disc 1? Probably a problem with my one player, but the disc started skipping towards the end of the disc. Ripped onto my laptop OK so looks like just my player not liking the disc. These things happen.

Gorgeous package, great score, one of the highlights of the year for me. Bittersweet though, as I shall always wonder what might have been had they let Singer go ahead with a sequel. This is a wonderful score, I love how it uses John Williams themes from the 1978 film. Its all such a love letter to that great movie.

My last soundtrack of 2013 proves to be a good 'un! And 2014 should have a good start with The Abyss...

Thanks. That Reeve-and-flag item is the liner notes booklet from the Rhino 2-CD set. The booklet is oversized and not meant to fit in the jewel case. It's pretty nice but I have to keep it in a desk drawer.

Ah, that explains it. I missed out on the Rhino release, but had a friend who burned me a copy. Unfortunately, it was a few months before I found out about the Blue Box set.

Got back from England today to find my LLL order at the post office (€43 duty - yikes!). Very much looking forward to hearing it all but Police Academy is first up.

I noticed the album edit of the title march isn't on the new set. I don't really miss it; unless I'm mistaken, it's just the opening and closing of the main title (or possibly the “fly-off”) with the end title march sandwiched in.

Do they put such a severe tax on it to discourage purchases from outside the European Union? I wonder if the U.S. has a corresponding tax on European goods. I'm not aware of any.

In the USA we don't pay any duty on foreign purchases.

Finally got the funds together for the Lethal Weapon box and placed my order today. Can't wait to hear it upon it's arrival!

Picked up Police Academy and Superman Returns on other orders since they were released.
