But in other news, get a load of this lovely thing:
I, who never win anything, have won two Sammy Awards - one for best compilation soundtrack release of 2013 - Preminger at Fox, which I of course share with the man who makes all our Fox releases possible, Nick Redman, and I have won the special preservation award as Best Album Producer for 2013. I am, at long last, a WINNER!

On the [WHERE'S JACK?} LP , It also states that the Mary Hopkin vocal is through the courtesy of Apple Records. Could this be causing added difficulty in having a CD of this excellent score released?
For that matter, it also states that "Danny Doyle appears by courtesy of TRIBUNE RECORDS of Dublin." And one more potential hiccup: apparently, the music for this British production was recorded at International Recording Studios in Rome. So maybe the original tracks aren't in Hollywood.
Bob - The scoring for Where's Jack? was done at the old CTS Studios in London. The ALBUM for Paramount Records was recorded in Rome.

Only recently I found this precious bit of information from James MacMillan on Where's Jack? soundtrack by Elmer Bernstein. So I am asking James: which documented sources can prove that the scoring for "Where's Jack?" was done at the old CTS Studios in London whereas the ALBUM for Paramount Records was recorded in Rome?
In John O'Brien, Jr.: Festival Legends: Songs & Stories, 2006 Danny Doyle claims that he went to L.A. first, then to Rome and finally to London to record his tracks, which seems to me quite exaggerated. Anyway, taking your theory for good, where would Mary Hopkin record her tracks ? Both in London and in Rome? Have you got dates for Mary's recording sessions?

AppleNet, sorry I missed your question and it has only now been brought to my attention. Well, my information is based on knowledge gained over the many years of following Elmer Bernstein's career and the many printed articles I've collected and stored. For example, the issue of 'Record Retailer' magazine dated Dec 18th 1968 which featured a photograph of Danny Doyle, Elmer Bernstein, Stanley Baker and James Clavell at the scoring sessions for the film, which at that point had the title, "Run Rebel Run".
As you will surely be aware, the Paramount Records album does mention "International Recording, Rome" and the recording engineer Federico Savina.
There is also the testimony of my good friend Peter Bordessa of Liverpool, who attended the scoring sessions in London and has regaled me with some lovely stories of the occasion.
As to whether Mary Hopkin went to Rome or not I really have no idea. You'd have to ask the lady herself...

I wonder why it was decided to re-record the score in Rome for LP release? Usually that would be done to avoid the re-use fees of the American musician's union. But I didn't think that was an issue for scores recorded in London.
