A wonderful score from John. Not often mentioned. Any comments?

Actually I think old mini-series are a rich vein of music to be mined.
Certainly Centennial by John Addison but also Gerald Fried's Roots. How about an extended version of Shogun (Maurice Jarre) Rich Man, Poor Man (Alex North). A genre that seems to be ignored.

A couple of years ago, we did discuss the DVD's and the music. You might want to look at some of our comments, both pro and con.

Great score, but shouldn't it be 1978-79, not 1980?

Yes, this epic miniseries aired in 1978 and 1979.

And as I have posted elsewhere, I love Addison's music. One of the best and most memorable main titles ever, IMHO, and his theme for the timelessness of the earth vs the transitory quality of humanity is simply exquisite and evocative. The Chandos suite conducted by Rumon Gamba is a treasure, but I would love to hear Addison's other wonderful character themes separate from the classic miniseries, which I suspect I was not alone in taping off the television so I could have that music!

I've posted requests for this one several times over the years.

Basil, we Addison CENTENNIAL fans need to gang together to become an unstoppable force - all seven of us!

A couple of months ago I saw a great deal on the boxed DVD set of "Centennial" and bought it -- it had long been a favorite of mine, although when I rented the DVDs from Netflix a few years ago, they seemed VERY disappointing to me. But then they released it again, and I think it was better -- I watched a couple of episodes, and they seemed much better than those I had rented. I've also mentioned the music, but the funny thing is that when I watched the older DVDs, the music didn't grab me like it did when it used to be broadcast on TV, so I stopped trying to buy the music.
