Mark Tschanz is a fine film composer (HOTEL SPLENDIDE starring Daniel Craig and Toni Collette, TEKNOLUST starring Tilda Swinton, FUN, etc.) and a close friend of mine (who scored my short film THE INTERVEW) He is also an extraordinary song writer and guitarist and even had an album of his songs released on the Warner Brothers label (one song was picked by Bernardo Bertolucci to be in STEALING BEAUTY).
The trendy Hotel Café in Hollywood has given him an opportunity on January 8th at 8PM to strut his stuff again and if he gets enough paying customers they will give him a regular spot. I thought I would use this forum to spread the word and help him along. There is a $10 cover charge:

This last image is from an album where he shared his score with Desplat's LUZHIN DEFENSE !

Henry, tell Mark I really wish I could be there. Hope he gets a steady gig so I might be able to hear him when I'm out there again!

They really like him but they want to make sure he can bring in a crowd more than once, hence this follow-up gig. Hey getting Gary Oldman to show up the first time around wasn't bad. Mark will facebook you.

It was an absolute treat to see Mark perform at the closing party of last years 'Fans of Film Music' event. There was an awful lot of talent on display for sure. I would highly recommend hearing Mark perform if you have the opportunity. He seemed a lovely gentleman with a true sparkle in his performance !

Best Wishes,
Gareth

Thanks, Gareth!
Mark is such a consummate performer! But is not a known quantity. Ten years ago the GSPO was also totally under everybody's radar, it took that long for them to come into their own. Mark will be where he should be, it is just a matter of time.
Here is a new song he threw together and will be a part of this concert I wager:

Here is a rock song he wrote for his album that Oscar winning director Bernardo Bertolucci chose to put it in his film STEALING BEAUTY and asked him to write an end title song for the film. But that is another story....

Congrats to Mark on last night. These gigs are sounding better and better.

Many have asked why I keep touting this guy who has only one soundtrack released of his scores. Well when I was young there was a whole slew of composers who would constantly surprise me with their scores. They had such talent and range I could barely able to keep up with them all; Elmer Bernstein, Henry Mancini, Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry, Ennio Morricone and the new kid on the block, John Williams, knocked my socks off. These days I have three; Alexandre Desplat, Roques Banos and Mark Tschanz. Mark hands over cues from his newest projects or auditions, after I bug him a bit, and, like those previous 2 composers, about 1 of every 3 surprise me and many do are so good my socks are knocked off. The giddiness of those old days is great to feel at my age.

So until some big producer wants such a score rather than a name that has marquee value, the benefit will be mine alone. He works constantly but not doing feature film scores. I need that constant work to continue if I am going to get my Mark Tschanz fix, along with my Desplat and Banos ones.
