Also worth noting, theclassicalshop.net is not only offering this album in lossless flac, but also in HD (24 bit/96 kHz). If you are purchasing the HD download, you get the CD resoluation and MP3 download for free. I'm currently loading - this should sound marvelous!

Try comparing the flac with MP3. Tell us what you hear.

For those wondering what the actual name of the album is, The Film Music of Miklos Rozsa.

Returned to this CD recently after not playing it for quite a while... and it sounds even better than I remembered it. Half-an-hour of Jungle Book in such fine sound makes it essential on its own, but the Thief of Bagdad suite is also excellently played and recorded, and Sahara is terrific. I hope this one hasn't been forgotten about in the years since it was released. It deserves to earn fresh admirers.
The only oddity is the presence of Ben-Hur. It seems out of place. All the other pieces feature films involving the Korda brothers, so I think it would have made a neater program if, instead of Ben-Hur, another Korda-related score had been selected (That Hamilton Woman? The Four Feathers?) for an all-Korda collection.

Update: Oops... sorry. I see the old headline from this old thread suggests there is a new Rozsa CD coming. Apologies if my re-posting it has misled you.

Well, Basil, you did. I thought the three Polydor re-recordings were finally coming.

Me too! But Basil has inspired me to pull out the wonderful Chandos disc.

Having enjoyed the new blu ray release of BLOOD OF THE VAMPIRE, I've been recently enjoying Gamba's take on Stanley Black's wonderful scores, another fine release in that Chandos series.

I agree. The dramatic scores on that CD are really good. One of my favorites in the Chandos series. But Gamba didn't do that one... it was conducted by Barry Wordsworth.

Just a quick glace as the number of replies would tell you it's likely an old thread, at least.

I was all the way down the first page of this thread, reading along, and didn't realize it was very old news until I saw Ron Hardcastle chiming in. He died years ago. He was a good guy.
