Is there any news on Volume 2?

More then likely, it will either come out sometime around the start of the next season, later the year.

Just a wild guess on my part.

Hm I'm not sure that makes sense. Next season will start next year, Vol. 2 was supposed to be the music from the second half of the first season (or at least that's what most of us thought). I would think the score for the second season would come out next year with season 2. I'm waiting for Bear to post some news on his blog. Just finished the first season today. Got hooked.

Well, it will go out, but I suspect you'll see it perhaps later this year.

The First album by all accounts is dong quite well, so there isn't a rush to get the second one out.

Despite some soapy and 'women's lit' elements, I found myself watching this series from start to finish.

McCreary's music is very good, and the album is probably the best-presented album I've heard from him (he tends to go the C&C route, but thankfully opted for something more listener-friendly this time).

But I just played Jeff Rona's WHITE SQUALL, and heard the track "The Skye Boat Song" (trad.). Lo and behold, it was the same melody as the OUTLANDER theme! I'm sure it's credited properly in the series and everything, but for some reason I had always thought this to be an original McCreary composition. I feel like an idiot! smile

What? Since when has he gone C&C? Even if he wanted to, since he's scored series television almost exclusively, it wouldn't be possible. But even for his releases of the "Caprica" and "Blood & Chrome" TV movies, he didn't include everything. (The "Caprica" pilot score runs an hour and ten minutes, of which 54 minutes are on the album.) Plus, quite often, he creates "album versions" of cues, sometimes combining related cues from different episodes, to favor the listening experience.

I've never seen "Europa Report," so maybe that album is C&C. But even if so, that hardly makes a tendency.

OK, maybe not entirely C&C, but they're often WAY too long and eventually wear out their welcome (the DA VINCI'S DEMONS albums are a great example -- fine music, lousy presentation). OUTLANDER was a refreshing change of pace.

Oh! Well, that's a different thing.

Europa Report is not C&C. I don't know if it is missing anything, but the score is presented in an order optimized for listening, rather than what appears in the film.

Bear just shared this on Facebook. New CD coming in September and a listen to an expanded arrangement of the Skye Boat Song which is fantastic:

The extended track is absolutely sublime! smile

I'm so happy that there's more music this time around.

Another fascinating account of scoring from Bear that thankfully announces an upcoming (end of October) 22 track season 2 album. The series and Bear's music led me to explore the books. I'm currently nearing the end of book 3. At around 1,000 pages each book, I only have 6,000 more pages to go in the saga to date...

Its Bear at his best, up there with his BSG work. Worth a purchase for the track 'Faith' alone, which was an emotive and sublime piece of music.

Me and the missus have started watching this series.
Series One & Two have/are being shown on More4 in the UK.
It's a fascinating and engrossing show and I've really fallen for the music by B McC.
I know I'm a series and a half behind anyone who gets Starz or Amazon, so please post any alerts of spoilers (we're up to about ep4 of series 2).
The main themes are beginning to really take hold now (the missus loves the opening title song, based on a traditional piece).
I think the production value and location photography is very atmospheric and beguiling.
It's gritty and beautiful at the same time.
There was a long musical piece at the beginning of the opener of series 2 that almost reminded me of the Golden Age of film scoring. The high strings were quite a surprise to hear in a modern TV series*. Can't wait to hear that cue on CD (I only have the two volumes from series 1 at the mo').
Dya ken?

*I would guess, from the track list just above, it's called Leave The Past Behind.

Aye Yavar, I would say it's some of the most emotionally fulfilling scoring I've heard by the Bear.
After this and his excellent CLOVERFIELD PARADOX score, I'm deffo on board the Good Ship McCreary now.
btw, how are YOU getting on with The 100 series?

We're still behind in the UK with this series, if you don't subscribe to Amazon.
It's on More4 at the moment and they are currently screening series 3 (episode 4 at the mo).
It's still an intriguing and very enjoyable show and the music is just fantastic.
The finale track of the last episode shown (A Car Accident) was so emotional. Great stuff.

On a side note. It's quite funny how young Jamie has been hit on more by high ranking British officers than fair maidens in the show.
smile
