This was one of the earliest CD's I ever got by this young, underrated French composer - for a German TV puppet show - and it's long been a favourite.
I even have a soft spot for the cheesy 80's song Mr Boody (not by Talgorn) on the CD!
It's only got 4 tracks by Fred T, but they are quite lengthy and total about 25-30 minutes (I think).
It's got a lovely, languid, harmonica-led main theme, that he has since re-used in his DeWolfe library music CD's from a few years back.
Like a lot of his other scores, there's a big John Williams flavour to his orchestrations and there's one cue (Death of Old Monty) that's especially gorgeous.
It popped up today on my playlist and all those warm fuzzy memories from yesteryear gave me a great big cuddle !! smile
Any other fans?

I can't say I have heard this one yet, but I have nearly always enjoyed MR Talgorn's scores. Wish he does more of them. Good composer.

My oh my, film music discussion ain't what it used to be!
Thanks for your comment dan, even though you haven't even heard this score. Talgorn is indeed one of the great symphonic film composers.
It's hard to believe, but gratifying I suppose, to think that I'm the only film music fan who has this CD and enjoys it.

You are not alone Kevin. This score deserves an expanded version.
Mr Talgorn is very fond of this score.

So, I almost flipped past this in my local cd shop, but vaguely remembered it had 28mins. of Talgorn, and nabbed it for a whopping $2.39.

Now.....WTF is this thing? Playing it tonight, but judging from the very busy packaging & talent involved...again, wtf is it??? Maybe Germany's answer to Tintin, in popularity? Hopefully not too Mickey mousey & more like Folk's Neverending Story-type fantasy scoring.

Thought I'd try to spur more discussion than McGann got?!?

Check the Wikipedia entry on Augsburger Puppenkiste, a much beloved German marionette theater. They made a movie in the 90s, this is it.

Whoa! I was not only JUST about to make a thread for this film, bemoaning that the gorgeous score (which I discovered via the DeWolfe re-use as Kev pointed out in his original thread) wasn't available on CD... Only to discover that it not only actually is, but that I was able to pick up the *last copy* over on Amazon.com just now for only $10!

Indeed from what I've heard of this score through those DeWolfe excerpts, this really does sound gorgeous, in that distinctly Talgorn sound - very Williams-esque in his incredibly rich string phrasing especially, but I think that's honestly just the way Talgorn writes versus a conscious emulation of Williams' style, as it's been very consistent across his 30-year career now. Admittedly the rising first four-note phrase of the main theme here is VERY similar to William's HOME ALONE theme, but whatever...

Thank you for bringing the soundtrack album to my attention, Kev. I just assumed it was unreleased shy of what I was able to find through DeWolf.

Now I need to hunt down the even-rarer LITTLE PRINCE and LES AIGUILLES ROUGES score albums, and I think my Talgorn album collection will be complete. Each new score of his that I discover I just love more and more, and his library music is fabulous - basically a direct extension of everything he's done in film, sometime simply re-orchestrating existing cues from his earlier scores.

Whoa! I was not only JUST about to make a thread for this .

Calling Joan hue & 'E' - witness the reverse voodoo at work here!!! I hope you two see this, they will get it ;-)
Alas, Monty was bumped, shooting for a spin tonight.
The packaging is so freaking weird, I'm sure it's a fine score, I hope so anyway, but I would never have bought this had I not remembered an old print FSM review.
Talgotn isn't clearly even mentioned, the Munich S O gets the credits!!

Wait til you hear Death Of Old Monty, bobb (and Sean).
You'll be blubbing into your cornflakes!

I've just cued it up again - the track is actually called Old Monty's Death..I was close wink
Just really lovely/beautiful/sad/tragic music, almost Monsignor-like (Audience with the Holy Father) in it's religious gorgeousness.
Don't forget to give Mr Boody a spin, for some fun 90's electro-pop.
And call back with your thoughts. This thread needs all the help it can get smile

So is LITTLE PRINCE. Both are stunning symphonic film scores in the grand tradition.

Hoping to own all three of those soon. I'll report back, Kev. Your description of the music has me very excited!

This is en route and hopefully will arrive by the end of the week. Excited to hear it!

I also just realized his LITTLE PRINCE score is on Spotify. Perhaps I'll cave and finally sign up for that service after all...

Oh good I meant to post back on this!

The Talgorn - Kev is right its gorgeous, wonderful, had me hoping a label puts together a nice presentation. If I ate cornflakes I would've blundered in them.

The songs - I did like a few in that bubblegum, disco electronic 90s fun pop mode, a couple I skipped, but overall I did exclaim "WTF is this??" more than a few times. A kids movie? With a song called Horny, for example.
Weird.

Overall - great blind buy find, since those are all the rage these days. Now I need to find RRRRRR....the Talgorn kids score cases in a fuzzy cover, right?

You guys have me really excited for this one. I certainly do love the bits Talgorn licensed to DeWolfe, even with those annoying fade-in/fade-outs. Can't wait to hear it in full.

In more disappointing news, I did register on Spotify only to learn LE PETIT PRINCE isn't available to me after all - I assume it's not available at all in the US in that case. Grr!
