Does anyone have physical mailing addresses for the Korngold Socity and/or Brendan G. Carroll, the Korngold scholar?

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

You won't be able to reach Mr. Carroll at this time because he is still in prison due to child pornography. I am not sure when he will be released or if he will ever get out of caretaking-institutions but at the moment it is highly unlikely to get in touch with "Evil Dad".

And to think he was my music teacher when I was 11!

Though I've never met or corresponded with Carroll, his name and his filmmusic writings have been known in the filmmusic collectors' world for many years, so I thought the developments detailed in this thread were a cruel prank at his expense, and I had fully intended to object.

I certainly had never heard these shocking allegations passed around in our community before this moment.

After some internet searching to find the reality of the situation, it appears to be true! frown

It is extremely rare for the sometimes sordid reality of the real world to impinge on our sunny, but fanatical, love of film music, and a moment like this brings one up short. Condolences to the victims.

I'm genuinely shocked. It would seem a discreet veil has been drawn over this.

It's always frightening when someone like this shares your taste, and is a fellow traveller in a composer's emotional aesthetic. Unsettling.

I'm afraid the Korngold Society will need reborn.

P.S. I deleted most of my post here because I wasn't explaining what I meant clearly in so short a space, and it probably looked tasteless and prurient, which it wasn't.

I'm shocked. I wonder if this is one reason we never saw any more Korngold after The Sea Wolf/Kings Row, which Mr. Carroll participated on. However, the article Manderley linked to didn't mention any actual victims, so perhaps there was only writing about abuse but no active abuse? I very much hope it's the latter and I also hope that Mr. Carroll gets the help he needs. I don't feel that any of this invalidates his contributions to musicology, however, and I still hope to one day own a copy of his excellent Korngold biography in hardcover if I can find an affordable copy.

If Brendan Carroll is in prison, how then can it be that he is still quite active on the Korngold board and indeed even today on January 17th?

Good question! What Manderley linked to was from 2011 and described a jail sentence that would have ended by now, but if he was active during that time perhaps it's someone else with a similar name, writing talent, and interest in music?

The link even said that this "Mr. Carroll" had been jailed for 32 months in November 2011 and would have restricted internet use throughout this time. This would mean that this person is still in prison till summer 2014. So something doesn't fit here at all and is totally wrong.

Is anyone really sure if this is OUR Brendan G. Carroll in these articles?

A prison sentence of 32 months would mean that an offender is likely to be released on licence at half that term or less.

I became aware of this case about 6 months ago when someone mentioned it to me in an email but I know no more than what has been reported in the British press. It was certainly very shocking news and the convicted offender is clearly "the" Brendan G Carroll.

I can't speak for others' sensibilities, but I certainly don't feel "tainted" when listening to Mozart, Beethoven – or even Wagner, for that matter – knowing that Hitler and his gang enjoyed and exalted these composers.

For me, a composer's achievements are separate from any of his adherents or promoters – no matter their politics, crimes or proclivities.
