Was hoping since the movie opens in a lot of Europe in just two weeks we'd get a CD release earlier but no such luck.

Anyway the movie looks fun and the score was recorded in London last November.

Could this be a mistake for Elfman? I saw a preview last night and do not think it is going to be good. Will have to wait and see what viewers say. Does not look like one we will be attending.

Yeah Kim, I think Mr E is now seriously considering his future in film scoring due to the mistake you think he has made with this film!
Good job. smile

Elfman has scored a good mix of movies both terrible and wonderful since he started - I don't view this as a major misstep, but it's certainly another one that I'll buy the album for but likely not watch the movie.

Yeah, and you know... he has a youngish child, I think, and it's probably nice for him to work on a project that that's kid-friendly... much like EPIC was last year. And so what if the movie doesn't look so hot? Many of my very favorite soundtracks have been composed for nearly unwatchable movies.

I don't think any movie is a career ender for a composer of Elfman's statue at this point. Name me a composer who hasn't scored at least one lousy picture? (composers like John Corigliano who have only done a handful of pictures don't count).

Saw the movie yesterday - Elfman's score is pretty nice, really (though I wonder how it would have been if he'd worked in the cartoon's theme music somewhere). Fun movie as well.

Scoring bad movies didn't hurt Goldsmith's career (& he scored a whole LOT of 'em), so it's unlikely to hurt Danny's (as long as the music makes the movie better, as with Goldsmith).

What is all this talk of this being a terrible movie? I haven't seen it, but I read one review (on Den of Geek) that was very positive, and looking at Rotten Tomatoes it's on 90%. Just curious, is there a genuine negative buzz about it, or is everyone just following the opinion of one person on here (who, if I'm reading their comment correctly, based their opinion on a trailer)?

It's the habit of having this site full of cynics. Good for Elfman to keep the trend of non MV composers scoring Dreamworks's animated pictures (which it continues since Patrick Doyle was confirmed to score another one).

So far this score is certainly more classical styled than Epic or OZ were last year. I like what I'm hearing. As for the movie, I'm just not interested in the subject matter though I'm sure it would be fun if I was younger.

But the album doesn't hit stores for another week and a half... you didn't illegally download this off the internet, did you?

But the real question is where the internet got it from...

Not really. It's pretty common for major label albums to be leaked early. People who get promos, or even people in pressing plants....etc

Well, since it has been released in Eu a while ago...

You might think that, but I couldn't possibly admit it. -Frank Underwood.

I'm going to go out on a limb - and this is just me spitballing here - but I'm guessing that some asshole decided to upload it to a fileshare site?
