Especially sad since, The Musketeers bears Murray's only decent title theme for a series. I say this as a Murray Gold fan. One who even liked his concert-only performance of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special composition Song For 50. And that really is a love it or hate it piece.
Look, his Torchwood theme is sounds without melody. Sarah Jane Adventures? Gimme a break!
At least The Musketeers has a terrific rhythm, and then a melody that ALMOST gives us what we want... but stops before we get a fully fledged melody.
I put my hands up to speaking as a complete listener here. Nothing else.
Thing is, he has done so many incredible themes WITHIN Doctor Who. But when it comes to an actual title theme he seems to not have a clue.
Except for The Musketeers. And guess what?! We can't get it!!!

Somewhat disappointing news. It's Gold's music (and, specifically, the main title theme) that I want.
Silva have said that they won't be releasing Gold's score for the recent TV adaptation of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', either.
I know it credits Paul Englishby with the Musketeers theme, but I kinda assumed that was a typo and it should say Murray Gold but perhaps not.
Shame about his Midsummer Night's Dream score, I've only watched the start of it but enjoyed the music so far. No news on a release of the last series of Doctor Who music... is he starting to put a kibosh on score releases of his stuff or something!?

I kinda know what you mean, but when it comes to themes within the shows themselves, he has form, some of his in-show Who themes are my favourites from film or tv of the last few years... I can live with that!

Oops, my bad, thanks! How odd then... there would have to be a really good reason for not including the theme music from a CD of music from the show. A bit like the lack of the late period Matt Smith arrangements of the Doctor Who theme which was one of the most well liked of the whole new Who era to date!

and it is this music because Paul put the CD together. What it does not mention is that most of the large scale cues are performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra....as I "fixed" the orchestra for Paul...and great sessions they were too!
Well the music always sounds great and well performed in the show!
Even if he did put the CD together, it would be a little more magnanimous to include the theme tune even if it is by someone else! Ah well, I shall just have to use an audio rip from the DVD or something to round it out. Paul Englishby's own theme for the Musketeers is rather good I have to say, albeit oddly Hispanic, which would be fine except for the fact that a key thrust of the show is the ongoing war against the Spanish! It's a bit like with Sherlock though, Michael Price's own theme appears all over the place while David Arnold's theme music doesn't feature at all... and in fairness I prefer MP's (even if it's a bit more like the Zimmer theme for the movies).

His theme for ITV's Scott And Bailey is superb. Ben Foster scored the episodes. Sadly the cues are so short, there's little chance of a CD.
Love the series, love the two leads (and it just so happens they both played INCREDIBLY good guest roles in Doctor Who), but again, another very mundane sounding them from Murray! Must be my ears but I hear something that could be from a news magazine show or something.
And yes, I too adore his music for Doctor Who, where some of the themes used would grace any series on their own (think the running theme from 'Rose' DW Series 1, This Is Gallifrey, Doomsday or Matt Smith's Doctor Theme) but title themes for other shows? He just doesn't seem to have the knack for me. I mean, contrast it with Murray's mate David Arnold's tunes for Sherlock and the Randall and Hopkirk remake. Both superb, melodic and catchy, almost of the old school, but really great tunes.

I'm very happy that, finally, score is being released from this series. There was some superb music in Season 2, and from what I've seen of S3, there is in this current season. It is a great shame that the main title isn't included. I do wonder what is going on with Murray Gold's music at the moment, as no Season 9 Who release has been announced yet. (That I've seen).

One thing occurred to me. If we look at the difference between the shows of say, pre-2000, we can see a massive difference between a lot of tv themes. Just compare The Flash of the 90s, with what we have now. A wonderful Danny Elfman theme full of melody, vs some rushing noise that we have in the modern series. So I shouldn't be too harsh on MG. He's probably been told to emulate all the action shows.
And compare what he's been doing with Doctor Who since Russell T Davies left Doctor Who, with the very pleasant score for A Midsummer Night's Dream. Talk about a return to form. As I've always said. RTD asked for stuff. Moff (Steven Moffat, current Doctor Who showrunner) probably didn't. Just not in his sphere of interest I'm assuming.
