I have the Italian soundtrack, with the songs in Italian. Much-maligned when originally released, critics said Zefferelli made St. Francis and followers look like "flower children." Which worked for me. Lovely film, with beautiful work all around. No soundtrack for English version, because it was such a flop. This was the movie Zefferelli made after having such an international smash with ROMEO AND JULIET, and everyone had perhaps unrealistic expectations. (They always do. Look at the films famous directors make after major successes: ACE IN THE HOLE, Billy Wilder's follow-up to SUNSET BOULEVARD, HEAVEN'S GATE, Michael Cimino's follow-up to THE DEER HUNTER. Even THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, Orson Welles' follow-up to CITIZEN KANE, though considered by many actually a better film, was nevertheless a major flop, and spelled the end, in effect, of Welle's career.)
