On the Thief thread it was indicated that a label - unnamed - were doing this release. It is, without doubt, my own personal grail of grails and I've been banging on about it on here since we got 1 disc of it in 1999 (which was great, but only included some of The Grateful Dead's contributions). I was on the Thief thread because there's a Safan track on that disc, and I've been a huge fan of his since about '86 when his TZ work blew me away.

The quality of music on this series was just incredible. Some big names - Poledouris, Christopher Young - some other familiar names did my favourite of their work here (Robert Folk). Safan did 7 episodes and was the man of the match for me. His scores for To See The Invisible Man and Opening Day were sensational. The latter has its own thread on here (not started by me, called Moving Day by the OP).

Anyway, to whoever is doing this: please, please, please get as much of the scores on disc as you can. I'll pay whatever you like. Opening Day alone probably has 15 mins of score (Director John Miluis told Safan to score every second of it and he'd remove what he didn't like). And there are 80 episodes in those first two series.

*There are officially three series of 1980s TZ, but only the first two were magical for most fans. The third had an entirely new crew, country of filming, composers, narrator and essentially only shared a credit sequence. So it doesn't really matter if it's included for this release (for me, anyway).

Fingers crossed this is done well. Next year is *gasp* thirty years since the show first aired.

Does anyone know any details about this one?

I knew nothing about a Dennis McCarthy disc!?!

Those episode totals by composer can be misleading as many 'episodes' were hour long compilations of several shorter stories, which often shared a composer. Safan actually did 7 and I imagine The Grateful Dead / Merl Saunders did 20+.

the McCarthy CD was a limited promo sold on the Banning site (no longer listed since it's OOP):
http://yhst-76230688982511.stores.yahoo.net/dennismccarthy.html

Here's detail about it
http://www.discogs.com/Dennis-McCarthy-Twilight-Zone-Music-From-The-Television-Series/release/3669279

And it was announced on FSM in 2009:

Impressive composer list! Would love to hear especially the scores by Steiner, Drasnin and Kempel.

I'm a proud owner of the McCarthy disc. smile

Not wishing to make anything in you guys' collections redundant, but I hope the official release has track listings like that for all episodes inc the McCarthy ones.

I hope it's like the recent original Star Trek release (not my kinda thing personally, but it looked fab for the fans), but I'd settle for treatment like Intrada's Amazing Stories provided they covered all of the essential episodes. I'll take whatever I get of course.

William Goldstein, who releases his own promo cds, said he couldnt do his TWZ scores because of copyright. I wonder exactly (not hypothetically) how McCarthy got to release his scores?

The IMDb listing isn't fully complete. Here's the listing I gathered from the end credits of most episodes (I also used a combo of IMDb credits at the time:
http://tvscoring.150m.com/TwilightZone.html

At the time there were no composers, except like three, listed on IMDb, then after I put the listing online, somebody used what I had at the time and submitted to IMDb. That's happened more than once with the website.

Cheers for the info on William Goldstein and Dennis McCarthy, last child.

Justin, that makes for a much easier guide than IMDB - cheers. But I can tell at a glance that Episode 45 is Robert Folk not Basil Poledouris. IMDB don't appear to have credited anyone with that episode, but it's Folk. Great score. Lead to me spending a fortune on Folk promos in the mid 90s.

Back in the mid-to-late 80s, when I was still a schoolboy, I wrote down a list of the composers for each episode in a notebook. It's till kicking about somewhere.

You can see by Series 3 it's a whole new bunch of composers (and everything else).

Thanks! Fixed the credit. Also took the chance to re-check a handful of credits on Youtube and found another missing Grateful Dead credit, and added that, too.

Yep, To See The Invisible Man (Safan) shouldn't still be unreleased almost 30 years later. TV scoring as good as it gets.

Anyone else know anything about this possibly forthcoming release?

I have both here, the official NEW TWILIGHT ZONE cd and the McCarthy Promo cd.

The McCarthy stuff is REALLY great and partly tops his TNG-Scores.

I had to heard the official NEW TWILIGHT ZONE a lot of times, than i began to like it.
There is defenetly good stuff there to find (but not everything).

Iam shure in a NEW TWILIGHT ZONE Box set would be a lot of great music to discover!

I seem to kind of vaguely recall that one time, maybe three or four years ago, when the discussion of these show's scores came up, Ford said something along the lines of, "Good things come to those who wait."

It was Ford who said another label was now dealing with it a few weeks back. I'm not sure if the fact that a label have been working on it for several years (if that's the case) is a good or a bad thing.

I'm personally hoping Safan is mentioned first for a good reason. He needs a disc to himself. But at the very least Opening Day and To See The Invisible Man should be presented in their full glory.

Before the track list is even available, I hope there's more to come. After Safan, I thought Robert Folk's contributions were the most impressive (not including inhouse composers Merl Saunders / Greateful Dead). But he's not listed on the box. Neither is Morton Stevens.
