I'm thinking particularly of the complete and re-mastered Jerry Goldsmith scores that Intrada has released i.e. "ALIEN, 'SAND PEBBLES', "PATTON", "MASADA" and "THE WIND AND THE LION" to name a few
Last evening I gave a listen to "THE WIND AND THE LION" and once again I was struck by the sheer brilliance of this Goldsmith score. Intrada captured the complete score on disc 1 and the album version with source cues on disc 2. It is beautifully recorded and the complete score is nothing short of brilliant.
I urge the newbies to film music to give this masterpiece an ear, you will not be disappointed.

I have to agree. I bought the original album in the summer of 1975 and loved it. I never thought I'd live to see a deluxe edition like this released. We are truly living in a miraculous time for film music.

Agreed about "Wind…," and agreed about this sentiment. This is the cost of all these new gems all the time. I've made an iTunes playlist called "Remember!" and I throw scores in there when I'm thinking about it that I want to remember not to forget!

Yes to every single thing you said there. And those five score you mentioned are all masterpieces of film music, every single one of them is among Goldsmith's finest work.

I've made an iTunes playlist called "Remember!" and I throw scores in there when I'm thinking about it that I want to remember not to forget!
For this reason I often play "shuffle" on my iPod. ALL my CD's are in there and I am often struck what brilliant music I have in my collection. Sometimes I pick a CD from the shelve that I just heard a track from and play it. It's crazy it has come to this, but after the first couple of hundred CD's you can't memorize all the music in your collection. Still, hearing all that good music makes me really happy, so I guess it's worth all the money.
Enjoying very much Jerry Goldsmith as one of the best American masters of film music, no, the best one (creative, original, but popular), I have only 25 CD from him. I remember having heard the LP longtime ago, and it's epic and ample in my souvenir. The wind and the lion takes part of the excellent music to buy for the future, in expanded format or not. it is a confirmation for me, and will purchase it as soon as possible at a reasonable price.

Thanks, I'm very excited about the new Conti. BTW, I recently received Goldsmith's STAR TREK INSURRECTION, I love it! I think Goldsmith is the best TREK composer, he is to me atleast.
Awesome score and awesome release. Many thanks to Lukas Kendall, Douglass Fake, and especially Joe Sikoryak for putting them together on this so that we could get the complete score instead of just the reissue which was originally planned...
I also want to note for newcomers that each of the five classic Goldsmith scores mentioned in the top post are still available as unlimited MAF editions with the (unfortunate) exception of Masada, which went out of print a couple years back. That one definitely belongs in the same company and I wish it'd been unlimited so new fans could've enjoyed it. Might be one for LLL to consider reissuing...if Jim Titus does the artwork I might even buy another copy! And I wonder if the LP recording is available for licensing in addition since it could really use some improved mastering...but perhaps Varese owns that in perpetuity.
At the time of the film's original release in Dallas, TX we were gifted with a 70mm 6 track mag film version in a great theater. The Main Title started - and I was just "blown away" - then the opening sequence - let alone the stupendous Raisuli Attacks later in the film. I miss that type of experience....I am so grateful that Jerry's magnificent work has been so well preserved over the years.
It is often intense to go back to a recording one has not listened to in awhile. Such is the case with Intrada's masterful reincarnation of Jerry Goldsmith's "Wind and the Lion". To state that "WATH" is brilliant is an understatement. With the deluge of new releases, the outstanding CD's(scores) of antiquity take a sabbatical, instead one delves into new territory trying to get a handle on a new recording while the great scores of past simply linger in ones memory.
The liner notes erred when it said that the reason the original L.P. was released on Artista because the M.G.M. label ceased operations. Not true. The label managed to have one more #1 single ("Convoy" by C.W. McCall) and released its final soundtrack L.P.s in '82 (Jerry Goldsmith's "Poltergeist" and Henry Mancini's "Victor/Victoria").
