The film has just opened in China and the Far East to excellent business. The score has been singled out in reviews as one of the strong points of the film being spectacular and epic.

People who have heard the score talk of it being one of Chris Young's best scores and richly thematic . He used a big orchestra , choir , ethnic soloists and solo vocalists. It is describe d as a Chinese "lord of the Rings " .

This could be one of the truly great scores. We all know how good Chris is and this film has given him a wonderful canvas.

After those reviews I'm really looking forward to this score!

Last week Kaya Savas and I sat down with Christopher Young to present him with his IFMCA Award for THE MONKEY KING; we also asked him a few questions, including one asking for a clarification on the album situation.

Here's the article: http://filmmusiccritics.org/2015/04/christopher-young-receives-ifmca-award-for-the-monkey-king/

I love the way he says they wanted "hummable themes... old-fashioned kind of film scoring".

So, does that mean memorable themes are officially now deemed as old-fashioned?
