Not a period of film I'm very familiar with. However, I love The Most Dangerous Game. I also like King Kong, although I haven't seen it much.

Would like to see The Bat Whispers and The Man Who Laughs.

Wow... I can't believe I forgot "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" (English & Spanish versions). Add them to my list.

Great list, Mark, that includes both American and "non-American" films. I feel that the reliance on Hollywood is too big here sometimes.

And you'll be very welcome to take part in these threads and put a light on some unknown scandinavian gems !

Definitely! It's easy for me to remain "English-language-centric" when it comes to films, so the more good movies I know about from other lands, the better!

I try to do so once in a while (see my "Cinema Club" thread series, for example).

In this case, Mark covered quite a few of my own picks too.

Incidentally, I'm even more interested in the silent era prior to 1928.

What an odd stretch of film history you've chosen to lump together, Mark, encompassing the final, great flowering of the silent era and the first tentative years of the sound era. I've winnowed down my single-year lists and come up with this:

  • L'AGE D'OR
  • BEGGARS OF LIFE
  • BLACKMAIL
  • BLONDE VENUS
  • BOUDU SAUVE DES EAUX
  • THE CAMERAMAN

  • LE MILLION
