Goldsmith was connected to many Rod Serling projects in his career. Wonder if they ever met and wonder what Rod thought of Jerry and his music? Wonder if he tried to get him or thought of him for NIGHT GALLERY? Would like to know what Serling's thoughts were on the use of music in Film and TV.

Goldsmith/Serling Connections

PLAYHOUSE 90 - Some Episodes including "The Rank and File", "Requiem for a Heavy Weight"

TWILIGHT ZONE TV Series

THE LONER TV Series

SEVEN DAYS IN MAY

PLANET OF THE APES

THE MAN

THE SALAMANDER

Looks like it'd be a pretty smokey room for their meetings, if they ever had any.
Make a great TZ Episode title: Tonight for you're approval, "TWO GENIUSES IN A SMOKEY ROOM"

Check out Part 3 of Jerry Goldsmith's interview with Jon Burlingame for the Archive of American Television (just before the one minute mark) and you'll have your answer.

"Requiem For A Heavyweight" used Jean Sibelius' "Finlandia" as "Playhouse 90"'s main title, while the script for "Planet Of The Apes" was slightly revised by Michael Wilson.

Too bad they both smoked.

Oh yes, and it was rumored that Goldsmith would light up during a recording session. This no doubt led to his death from colon cancer, while Serling was a notorious chain smoker (and heart problems inherited from his father, which did no good).

Let's hope they are now meeting up there.
