2014: Ghostbusters celebrates its 30th anniversary and Ghostbusters II celebrates its 25th anniversary. No doubt Sony has lined up plenty of licensing deals.

As far as music, the Varese Club released their Ghostbusters score album 8 (!) years ago next month and it's been out of print ever since. Spook Central did a write-up on it and it looks like there might be some room for improvement: http://www.theraffon.net/~spookcentral/gb1_score.htm

M.V. joked about doing a score/song combo release but I believe it was only a pipe dream.

Unfortunately, he also said the score elements for GBII are missing in action and no one knows where they are. (Possibly a victim of Sony's analog-to-digital transition period.)

At the rate titles are being re-released, I imagine it's only a matter of time before Elmer Bernstein's GB score makes its triumphant return on CD.

And could the GBII elements turn up? Stranger things have happened.

Jeez, 30 years! I can remember seeing it in the theater when I was five. One of the earliest memories I have of seeing a movie in the theater.

I missed out on Varese's release and the prices I see it going for on eBay are crazy! I'd love for it to be re-issued so that I'd finally have a chance to own it. Shame about the GBII elements. I know the score isn't as good as the first one, but it has some nice moments and I'd still like to have it. I especially love the little fanfare Edelman created for it.

No doubt Sony has lined up plenty of licensing deals.

Awhile back, some website (can't remember which) released a list of companies that Sony had established licensing deals with this year, so many are expecting a lot of stuff to come out this year for the anniversary.

M.V. joked about doing a score/song combo release but I believe it was only a pipe dream.

Oh, I'd be up for that. I've always thought the songs (at least a few of them) were just as big a part of the movie as the score.

Huh, there is more missing than I though. I'd certainly spring for some of the missing short cues and ideally a comprehensive remastered 2-CD set with complete score and the songs.
