That is very interesting indeed.... I know the name "Equatorial Man" from what I thought was the name of a Gil Mellé track from... something. Damn this memory loss... I've never heard those samples before though, not in that guise. "The Gears" is very different from the original Blue Note, logically. But what's really surprising is the inclusion of "Autobiography" (which is based on a theme from STARSHIP INVASIONS) and "Empire of the Condor" (which is derived from GOLD OF THE AMAZON WOMEN).
Most intriguing. I must investigate this further. Thanks for letting us know!

Thanks for the info. Some of what I heard from the samples really reminds me of his Mindscape album from '89 that is all synthesizer compositions

James, although it's an unmentionable, I don't think there's any harm in clearing up some doubts I have about the sources. For example, are these updated takes on original Mellé tracks, as arranged by the other artists on it ? Or is it Gil Mellé himself behind the recording - something he had planned but which never saw the light of day? The tracks do sound very like what he was doing in the early '90s.

All of these tracks were previously released on Gil's other albums and this one, of course, came out long after his death.

might want to mention this is fusion-style music, not a soundtrack in the first post.
Anyone who knows Gil's music would know that this is no a soundtrack to a score, so it may also be discussed in the Non-Film Score section, but there are elements and pieces that he has used in his scores represented on this, so the original poster is correct in placing the thread here.

This is the latest from Denise: "I know Perry Gentile, and he called me about a year or so ago to ask my permission to use some of the tracks as he wanted to do some mixing of his own and put it out on Amazon. He was one of the musicians who played on "Equatorial Man, and although it was recorded in Gil's studio, it was never released."
I have Perry Gentile and Paulina Filby listed as musicians on several of Gil's past recordings, but these versions were recorded in Gil's studio for his MILLENNIUM MAGIC BOX, a limited-edition DVD of only 50, of which I have one, compliments of the composer. It highlights his art with a musical background, The Gears, a composition is the track along with Equatorial Man was used along with a 20 minute suite of Frankenstein: The True Story. This is a handcrafted work of art with Gil doing the booklet and case cover and ends with an extensive interview of the composer. You will never see me selling this on eBay as long as I live and will probably donate it to the music division of the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center.

Thanks very much for that info, James. Most interesting. I had read a while back about a project which would include a 20-minute suite from FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY along with other things, but never knew what happened to it.
By the way, do you know who's behind this version of "The Gears"? I think it's excellent.

EDIT - Sorry, should have researched this before asking. I see that Reptet is a Seattle-based band. Anyway, great that Gil Mellé's music is still an inspiration for the younger generations.
