So this appears to have 5 or 6 extra minutes from Encounter at Farpoint. Is there any significance to pairing with The Arsenal of Freedom or is that just another McCarthy score that is unrepresented on disc yet?

It's a terrific action score and both episodes feature saucer separation combat. smile

THANK YOU GNP!!!!
The Arsenal of Freedom is a score I have dreamed of having since I first saw the episode 20 some years ago. Everytime a new TNG Album was released I couldn't believe that this was never part of it. I frankly was quite mad about that, but now that dream has come true. I was hoping LLL would release it in a next TNG album but I'm so thrilled that I don't have to wait for that.
The Arsenal of Freedom is one of those McCarthy scores that resembles his thematic, dramatic and action packed early season music composed for MacGyver, which is also way overdue for a release. I love all of the previously released McCarthy scores but I was always missing a full action episode score, now here it is. It appears to be a complete release too, I don't think any cues are missing, at least no significant ones. This album is worth purchasing for the ship separation sequence alone, never mind all the other fantastic cues.
Thanks again GNP, and Dennis McCarthy for composing such a superb score!
Ordered without hesitation.

Wow! An expanded remaster “Encounter At Farpoint” (which I'm pretty pleased about) paired with a great unreleased episode score!!! I like how this was done.

I wonder if “Captain Picard's Theme” is the alternate main title without the Alexander Courage preamble that appeared on the original album.

I'm now hoping that GNP does another couple of re-releases of this ilk…

The track title is the slate number “MFX53.” The description is “synth drone.”

Well, this came out of nowhere fast! Certainly looking forward to it, but I guess this means that "Arsenal of Freedom" won't be included on a future TNG set from La-La Land.

I just don't think that the word "drone" is a good one to associate with music.

It is an alternate Main Title, but it still has Courage's intro.

Fortunately for us it won't have to be smile. This way LLL can focus on some other great episode scores. I do like GNP's approach to release complete episode scores, especially if it's such a memorable one. Nothing against Best Of albums, they are appreciated too...

Comparing the timings, it looks like the "Picard's Theme" track, at only 22 seconds, is some kind of standalone version of the theme McCarthy used in a number of his scores (a theme I always liked, by the way). Whether the arrangement is similar to his version of the Main Title, we'll find out in a few weeks. The version with the adapted Courage opening appears to be Track 31.

And yes, I'm looking forward to "Arsenal of Freedom." The episode is a highlight of the first season, and the score does a lot to keep things moving. Curious to see if this'll launch a series of occasional TNG full-scores from GNP. (Perhaps collections with some of the scores from the two-parters, particularly since a few of those have been reedited as "features" for blu-ray.)

WHOOOT!

I'll definitely be happy to toss out my old release for Encounter At Farpoint.

A bit surprised too that this contains music from Arsenal Of Freedom, which as Jeff explained a great action score and a fun episode too!

FYI, 'Encounter at Farpoint" was remixed and edited from the GROUND UP under the supervision of Mr. McCarthy with his current mixer Matt La Point.

There were some performances problems that we wanted to fix back in 1988 and couldn't, but this time we were able to.

So it's a whole new ballgame.
