Pointless and relationships ending? Who did you date? Debbie Downer? I found Valentine's Day significant enough to get married on this day as do many people. I think dan had happy thoughts in mind when he started this thread. I think the majority of folks in healthy relationships find it to be a fun, positive day. There will be lots of chocolate marked down tomorrow. Maybe that will change your mind.

My favorite is when friends in relationships try to explain why it is, in fact, better to be single.

My favorite is when friends in marriages to to explain why that is better than being single when it is more than evident that both are quite miserable and would rather be with anybody else but each other.

Some thoughts on the holiday.yes it may be true like many holidays these days they have become so money oriented, but I think it is wise to see through that and see it for the nice meanings it brings forth. Showing the one who is so special in your life how much you love , care for them and need them.I notice in smaller towns one might go through the day like other holidays and not even notice it is Valentine's day. That is why I liked New York city. You went on the subway home from work that day and you see loads of males with flowers and roses and boxes of chocolate heading home to their love ones. Then if you get off at one of those store avenues in Brooklyn Queens or the Bronx you will see a newsstand or a flower shop where men are lining up in droves buying flowers or roses. It is just a nice sight to see in this too often cold tough life and world we live in . I miss that since I left New York.I feel one shouldn't have to feel they have to do elaborate things on that day. if you both really love each other for a few years or many, just the thought of simple things should do .Of course if it is your first Valentine' s day with your love, then bingo something big is what probably will be.As for what SOLIUM said about how many realtionships break up on this day. I wonder too, but I know one thing that can be true. The next morning the token booth clerks in the subway must beware, there will be some angry men and maybe woman who after having a bad Valentine's day will head straight for the first person they can deal with and that is the token clerk- DUCK- I saw this many times first hand, May you all have a nice day and remember there is nothing so nice then to hear someone tell you they REALLY LOVE YOU. IT DOES MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING in a sometimes very harsh world.
