So this may be James Horner's next (only?) film for 2014.
A Chinese historical epic, filmed in 3D by JJ Annaud (Name Of The Rose, Enemy at The Gates, Black Gold).
I loved the Chinese influence he brought to his delightful score for the Karate Kid remake and ANY new score from Horner these days is a cause for celebration from me.
I also still harbour a hope that some label (Varese?) will release his unused score from Romeo & Juliet.
Let the bashing begin smile

That film is scheduled to be released in 2015.

H's not on it yet. Don't believe everything you see on IMDb. Just a couple weeks ago a new interview with his frequent music editor, Jim Henrickson, had Henrickson say Horner wasn't on it yet (in talks or something like that).

Jean-Jacques Annaud said that James Horner had joined him on this project.

Interesting. Not crazy about the wailing voice, but I like that noble swirling horn theme that comes in and can see that being the foundation for a good "noble savage"-type theme. Will have to wait and see!

I had no freaking clue it came from your site. My source was JWFan.

And yet you give people a hard time if they don't quote JWFan.

I'll take a Double Standard Macchiato, thanks.

Yikes, that wailing vocal in that sample is hideous sounding. Personally, I don't care for that kind of aimless, all-over-the-map vocalizing. It was tolerable in Troy but it was the bane of The Four Feathers' existence and irritating in Black Gold. Just not to my taste, although it may work well in the context of the film.

Having said that, because it's Horner, I'll still be checking out this score. Beggars can't be choosers with Horner's sporadic output these days, and the rest of the sample does indeed sound quite promising.

I'm really not crazy about Horner's ethnic-wailing scores of the past 12 years or so, but if it has a great theme I'll definitely give it a try. That horn passage sounded an awful lot like The Amazing Spiderman, though.

This sounds heartrending to me! I'm too fond of any Horner. Can't wait to get the CD!

This sounds really promising. Loved the (what sounded like an) erhu variation of the main theme.
