It's not a bad programme at all, quiet a few of my favourites there, but to be honest I could do without THE KING'S SPEECH. It's just not one of his most memorable scores, and I feel it's only there because of the success and popularity of the film. However, didn't the early programme listing for the Patrick Doyle concert ended up being quiet different to the eventual programme? And of course, a few advertised pieces didn't end up being played at the David Arnold concert. It really would be a shame if Desplat's stunning MONUMENTS MEN score wasn't represented. (Though I haven't yet decided if I'm actually going to go to this. There's been quiet a few expensive trips to London for concerts in the last year, I'm not rushing into another as if I do it's guaranteed that something more desirable will be announced immediately after!)

Hello, guys. I was there as well and would like to add that the two encores were: 1. Un Heros Très Discret 2. Coco Avant Chanel To me, the highlight of the concert was the lengthy "Ghost Writer" suite.

Well, I enjoyed the concert on Thursday night, although overall, the programme and his style of scoring felt a bit repetitive and subdued at times. The programme did change from originally announced and the lack of Monuments Men was keenly felt by me Here's the prog... Twilight New Moon (Love Theme) = very lovely and gorgeous Girl With Pearl Earring - Suite = exquisite Benjamin Button - Suite = bit boring/nondescript Philomena/The Queen = fair to middling Grand Budapest Hotel = a hoot ------ Godzilla = just the Main Title... if Back to the Sea had been added it would have been cool King's Speech - Suite = very nice Pelleas et Melisande (Concerto for Flute/Orch) = about a 5 minute segment, sounded pretty good Birth - Suite = sounded as great as it always has Imitation Game = sounded better than what I've heard of the CD so far Harry Potter/Deathly Hallows - Suite - action-packed fireworks/bombast...I need to play my CD's again cos I remember them shitly!! He did two encores for two of his older French scores and I never caught what he called them (plus, I'm not familiar with his scores prior to Hostage and Pearl Earring so I wouldn't know them anyway, but one did remind me of Birth). Hooper and Frears were in attendance (he mentioned them) and we bumped into Richard Kraft after the concert, who's always good for a laugh. Don't forget Ghost Writer, which was the highlight for me. Grand Budapest was also fun for me. Some of the first part of the concert felt very samey. The Harry Potter action finale was well performed and sounded impressive. Still not the action style I love but well done to him for going for it. Mr Desplat was a likeable showman and made good impression. I think I'd have to agree with most of the comments here. During the first half, before having found the actual playlist, I was trying to work out what the first few things were - I made some good guesses and got them right but they certainly weren't super obvious! I did think it would get a bit samey, but it picked up quite a bit from The Queen and The Ghost Writer, which I had forgotten how good it was. Some interesting textures there. Godzilla slightly missed the electric guitar but was otherwise terrific. I must admit that the Harry Potter suite reinforced the notion that his Potter scores were very busy and noisy but thematically not massively exciting. They were loud but I still couldn't remember anything and the only glimmer was when one of JW's themes was subtly referenced. Shame he didn't do Rise of the Guardians or the Golden Compass which I think are far more fun and interesting. Does anyone know which specific cues were played for the suites?
