Just wondered if anybody has anything news wise on the status of John Williams Dracula being rereleased.

Never say never, but I think this is a lost cause.
It was discussed recently here. I forget the specifics, but it drained away all my hope, at least regarding the original recordings.

I bought the CD back in 92' and was so unimpressed by the pinched sound and analog hiss that I traded it away after a few years. Now, that CD is selling for hundreds of dollars and I don't think that horrible sounding CD is worth anything over $30.

I lived the exact same experience and made the same than you, pal.
Somebody please, bring on at least a remastered edition of the original LP!

Wasn't this title a Varese / MCA deal? And if so, wasn't Psycho II a similar deal that recently got expanded by Intrada... If so, this could mean a complete Dracula is possible, providing the original tapes exist...

from LLL's facebook:

DRACULA is MIA and has been for quite some time. IF a label is working on it, all that has survived is so-so mono elements as far as I know.

Well this is sad news... surprising the tapes are MIA, considering it was a big movie and it's not that old.

This would make for an interesting Tadlow rerecord. But hopefully the lost tapes will turn up somewhere.

Has Tadlow ever weighed in on this title? And by that I mean, is it on their radar?

If anyone's got about $50,000 to spare, they could put it on their radar! ;-)

Have you ever considered doing it via crowdfunding, and if you have, would that business idea be feasible? Just curious.

DRACULA is one of John Williams best scores ever, among my absolut favorites of this composer. I do own the original CD as well as the vinyl, but the sound definitely could need some improvement. I know there are also some nice cues missing, though I'm not sure how much they'd add to the overall listening experience.
Pitty if the tapes are actually lost. :-( But I'd be all up for a well done re-recording.
