almost-mid-year reminder
Let's wait for June. After that, it will be for the last semester.
I would love the expanded re-release to be THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES but expect it will be THE GAUNTLET instead, based on nothing other than my own personal musings

I think the expanded Outlaw will be Intrada territory. But it would be great if their possibly only Fielding title in 2014 could indeed be a proper release of The Gauntlet first!
So, whatever the expanded score on Quartet is, I expect another high quality release in the best old FSM tradition like their Gambler album.
Since there are 'still' no CD announcements from Quartet, LLL and Intrada, let's shift a little. Blu-ray-wise, Fielding is alive and kicking thanks to Nick Redman's Twilight Time:
Still on the Blu-ray topic, The Outfit desperately need a decent bona fide release from either Twilight Time or the Criterion Collection. There are two current editions outer that appear to be flawed.
...and restore the longer cut of the film that is not on the WBShop edition of the DVD. Turner Classic Movies airs the longer version.
The WB release is forgettable. It's a DVD-R with no chapters, no search fonction, and most important for me: no subtitles...
To be fair, Archive dvds usually have 10 minute chapter breaks which is good enough to jump forward/backward. Personally I never use chapter menus so that omission never bothers me. The dvd came with the trailer. I've read the movie is missing a 90 second scene (at about 78 minutes in) when Duvall is talking about his old gold watch, but other than that, I dont think it's a bad release. And it's not like companies who release pressed discs always include subtitles - Olive and Shout! dont usually include them. The new French dvd looks to be released a few years after the Warner, so they had the time and possibly the inclination to put out the more complete version, and probably added both French and English subs.

The American DVD has no chapters, no English SDH. The French DVD has a print transferred cheaply causing 'detelecine' and 'decomb' issues, no English SDH, just French subtitles.
A brand new transfer with chapters and subtitles is really needed. Do you follow me?

my reply was not to your post - it was to Jim Phelps and Chriss, so maybe you werent following me. I was pointing out the dvd's merits. Yes, we all would like the best versions possible, but this dvd isnt that bad compared to others. And as I said, usually Archive dvds have 10 min. chapters. I dont own the original copy anymore so I couldnt double-check that particular movie for them. Odd if they omitted them.
Just ordered the Warner Bros edition of The Outfit to double-check.
From my post on the FSM CD of The Outfit thread:
"The new Warner Brothers DV-R omits a 90 second scene. In the motel room after Macklin slaps the sh!t out of Bett, they calm down and talk about his gold pocket watch and his grandfather, who was a constable in the late 1800s. Instead, there's a cut to Macklin and Bett sitting up in bed. She mentions his grandfather, but we don't get the full impact of the scene when Macklin is at the funeral parlor and refuses to take the watch from the Henry Jones character. Turner Classic Movies does air the cut of the movie with the "grandfather scene" intact, but it is missing from this DVD."
As for the disc's quality, I didn't notice anything atrocious in terms of poor picture or sound. I would pay up for a version that includes the above-noted scene, though.
