MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24

GODZILLA---the reboot monster is on the cover of EMPIRE magazine. Premiere is May 16.

FARSCAPE---tv movie sequel underway to the sci fi series. Executive producer Justin Monjo is writing the script, "In the finale, the protagonists, American astronaut John Crichton (Ben Browder) and peacekeeper Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) got married and had a baby.
In the movie, it’s revealed the boy had special powers which made him the target of the villainous aliens so his parents hide him on Earth.
The plot follows the kid at the age of 19 when his whereabouts have been discovered and he rejoins his parents on their spaceship."

Monjo is also developing an HBO series, THE BEASTS OF VALHALLA, based on the private detective novels featuring Dr. Robert Frederickson, "Mongo The Magnificent", with Peter Dinklage possibly starring.

HEROES: REBORN---NBC 13-episode sequel miniseries underway from creator Tim Kring. The miniseries will be a stand-alone but no details were released. NBC entertainment head Jennifer Salke said some of the original cast might return, “Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

HOLLAND, MICHIGAN---dark comedy movie underway starring Naomi Watts and Bryan Cranston in which a woman cheats on her husband after she thinks he's cheating on her only to discover he's really a serial killer.

VERONICA MARS---the movie will have its theatrical and VOD premiere on March 14.

CONSOLE WARS---movie underway based on the book about the early 1990s video game war when Sega took on giant Nintendo. Seth Rogen is co-writer/producer/director.

DOCTOR STRANGE---Mads Mikkelsen (CASINO ROYALE, HANNIBAL) is reported to be a candidate to star in the Marvel Studios movie. Speculation is that Mikkelsen might play villain Baron Mordo. Matthew Modine (FULL METAL JACKET, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) said he wants to play Doctor Strange.

PIERS MORGAN LIVE---CNN canceled the show due to low ratings.

DANCING WITH THE STARS---Fox sportscaster Erin Andrews will replace co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet who was fired.

CONSTANTINE---Matt Ryan will star in the NBC series based on the DC Comics superhero.

DIPLOMATS---20th Century Fox comedy movie underway based on Dennis Rodman's "basketball diplomacy" visit to North Korea.

SECTION 6---movie underway based on the creation of MI6, England's spy agency, during World War I, and its leader Sir. George Mansfield who was the inspiration for Ian Fleming's M in the James Bond novels. Jack O'Connell (UNBROKEN) stars.

THE WINKLERS---ABC semiautobiographical sitcom based on Henry Winkler and his family.

DOCTOR WHO---Samuel Anderson will have a recurring role as a teacher at the same school where Clara Oswald also teaches.

I'd think the producers of Godzilla are a wee bit nervous, seeing as how sci-fi reboots/remakes haven't been doing that well at the box office.

If the rest of the film is anything like the teaser they have nothing to worry about.

Oh I dunno. I just watched the trailer over at the imdb & it didn't seem anything special. Some troops skydiving, some cool music from 2001 (Ligeti), a bit of panic & a quick shot of the monster, that looked just the same as the last Godzilla. Nothing that would make me want to watch it, but then I'm a long way from being the target audience.

Interesting. It sold me. The effects, choreography of the sequence, and music made for an atmospheric and intense experience. The roar at the end was spine tingling.

As a general Godzilla non-fan ( the original movies are pretty ridiculous, so when people had their panties in a wad over the Emmerich version I had to laugh. Really? Baby Godzilla is jumping daddy's tail and blowing smoke rings, and you got a problem with this movie? big grin ) , the trailer looks OK but I'm not lining up for my ticket quite yet.

Anything is gonna be better than Godzilla Vs Mecha Godzilla, or the Smog Monster or whatever razz

You can count me in as another fan of the Emmerich Goldzilla film (it was a lot of fun, I loved the rainy/cloudy atmosphere of it, the score fairly sizzled) and I just can't see how this version can differ THAT much to it, apart from a more serious/darker tone, in keeping with the more ponderous and dour tone of most films being made these days.
I also have no love of the old Japanese comedy versions, so the Emmerich take on things was miles above anything I've seen so far.

Don't you hate it when that happens?

The music is not from 2001. It is Ligeti, but he did not write it for 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's "Lux Aeterna," which may be one of the hardest pieces to ever have to listen to in concert. The score is certainly weird looking. smile

I'm very amused that Monjo is writing Mongo. I'm also excited for that project -- those were some awesome novels before the author went a bit nuts.

The music is actually from the Requiem by Ligeti.

Regarding the new Zilla preview: The scene of the fighter jets falling out of the sky is certainly very cool. But they look undamaged until they crash into the water. I wonder if Godzilla (or another monster) has the ability to emit some kind of EMP signal?
