Sometimes I get in the mood for just specific tracks. But most of the time, I'll let the whole CD play. Usually in the evening or night, once things have settled down and I don't have to worry about many interruptions.
For scores such as Conan the Barbarian and Star Trek TMP I'll play the whole CD(s). For something like Dirty Harry I have to edit out all the source cues in order to enjoy Schifrin's score. So, as I'm sure many members will say, it depends on the score (and the soundtrack).
In the case of Conan the Barbarian, the Varese 16 track CD is so good I'll play the whole CD. When listening to the Intrada release I'll edit out a number of source music cues and a couple of redundant tracks to make it more enjoyable.
Does anybody out there play a entire soundtrack C.D. or just selected tracks?
Honestly because of the long lengths, C&C presentations, and extreme dynamic compression used. It is very difficult listening to an entire album from start to finish with most of todays modern film score releases. However last week I really had good time with some old favorites of mine. With Final Fantasy by Elliot Goldenthal being well recorded and with proper CD mastering and played on a good sound system it's very easy to get lost in the music, and forget time is going until the CD ends. I also just really enjoyed Trapped in Paradise by Robert Folk a few days ago.
After keeping my CDs in boxes for three months during some changes in the house (to accomodate the new baby that's comming) and only listening to portions of my collection I keep in the iPod, I started to listen to some of my CDs the old way - using the CD player and through big B&W stereo speakers and it's been great - last week I listened to Intrada's Conan, The Shadow and Lalaland's Star Trek TMP.
Yesterday I listened to Lalaland "Sleeping With The Enemy" (a score I hadn't listened in a long time, and that has some very good tracks - but I confirmed why it is not one of my favourite Goldsmith's thriller) and then FSM superb release of "Logan's Run" and it was a kind of rediscovery of how great that score is, even the synth cues work (maybe the "interrogation" is a bit too chalenging - I had to lower the volume on that track because it was getting on my nerves...). Perfect presentation, fantastic sound quality, great booklet - indeed a fantastic release. While listening to both I searched the forum for threads about the scores and it made an interesting reading (lots of comments on Logan's Run, not much on Sleeping With The Enemy).
It depends, when I had Steve Jablonsky's Transformers: Dark Of The Moon on my Ipod (before a malfunction erased it from my Itunes) I would listen to select tracks. but when I'd walk sometimes late at night I'd listen to the entire thing especially since the last couple of tracks run right into each other giving it a continuous track listening experience
I have a feeling this has been discussed before. Sometimes I play the whole cd or cd set in sequence. Sometimes I'm in the mood for ye old random play. Depends on where I am. At home both the Sony 200cd changer and the now antique Bose 321 system allow random play on their contents, a feature that gets used frequently. At the office and in the car it is more likely that it will be whole disc play.
I also listen whole CD. But! Sometime, when new CD arrive and I really want to listen one track (see - Into Miami from Goldfinger) or I never listened it before and have some curious about this track (see - Only Myself To Blame from TWINE) - I listen this tracks first. And after that - I listen the whole album
