I can't be the only fan of Alan Silvestri's fantastic score for the cheesy, hilarious, ridiculously goofy 80's sports drama, AMERICAN ANTHEM. This was actually the second movie to capitalize on the appeal of the 1984 mens Olympic gymnastics team (the other being GYMKATA the year before with Kurt Thomas, another fantastic score deserving of release). Despite the quality (some would say charm) of the movie, Silvestri went off and running with the gig, using every facet of his diverse skill set. There's the brassy, noble fanfare a la BTTF, the brooding, quasi-mysterioso drama a la THE ABYSS, and the synth pop a la THE DELTA FORCE. There's also a surprising amount of score considering the soundtrack is dominated by songs; my guess is around 40 minutes. There are samples on Youtube but I'd rather not post links here given the sources. Silvestri has been a bankable name for limited editions and ANTHEM was a WB production, so I'm hoping this might be a possibility for one of the labels. It's an often stirring, wide-ranging score that really deserves a listen. If anyone has more detailed information about rights issues and the like I'd greatly appreciate it.

I love the two score-tracks from the official album, Arthur's Theme and Julie's Final. I haven't seen the film, but there are several interesting songs on the album too, by John Parr, Mr. Mister, INXS, Andy Taylor, Graham Nash (written by Moroder) and Chris Thompson (mixed/produced by Jay Rifkin and John Van Tongeren). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5ugjoIHgX4

I have the old soundtrack on cassette somewhere. I have it and the movie is playing on cinemax this month Yeah, I was inspired to post this thread after catching some of the movie last night on cable. To its credit, all involved did the work with a straight face, and there are worse sins than being overly earnest.

This is one Silvestri score that is deserving of a proper release.
