Intriguing. I'm guessing this might be done for cost reasons - i.e. it being cheaper to re-record the score than to license the music? It would be really interesting to hear the re-recording especially given the challenging nature of some of the effects Jerry came up with. Among the source material provided by 20th Century Fox, Creative Assembly also had access to the original soundtrack. Some of this iconic music is included in Alien: Isolation, but not necessarily how you remember it. The team re-recorded several of the original cues with a full orchestra, including some of the musicians that worked on the first film’s soundtrack. “The trouble is the soundtrack is so well known that people will know exactly what each cue means,” explained Lindop. “So we created new score elements that sit within this score system. "As was the case with a lot of the first steps on this project, it was about taking this stuff that we love and expanding on it in a way that is in-keeping with the film," Hope explains. "There was this whole phase of deconstruction in terms of both visuals and audio and really trying to understand what makes this an Alien sound; to establish the DNA and motifs that make it what it is and that any fan would recognise." This has involved creating a soundtrack that can be dynamically pitched against the on-screen action, and calling upon the services of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (the very same that lent its talent to the original Alien theme) to record the additional tracks. I just saw a couple billboards for this game and remembered how stunning the gameplay and visuals looked in that preview video. What platform is this for? I've been thinking of getting either an Xbox or Playstation and the chance to walk through Alien could help make my mind. And yes, as a huge fan of Goldsmith's score, I would love a release of Isolation's Goldsmith-inspired music.

I'm playing this at the moment, the score is mood-heavy, light on composition, but quite rich as far as the soundscape goes. It's built around many of Goldsmith's motifs - the film version of the main title is the most prominent theme, with many of his individual sounds and phrases cropping up throughout - but I wouldn't say it's dominated by them. Overall I think it's a great score if you like that kind of thing, and I would love to see a cd release. From what I've seen on game forums I think there's a big enough demand, although their preferred format might be digital, there's no doubt that the franchise is as popular as ever among young people. The game too I think is pretty great, although it is quite punishing, not really designed for casual play, there is an easy mode that probably lets you coast through if you just want to see the thing, but don't take my word for that. It is very intense, and the atmosphere is outstanding, it takes place on the same class of vessel as the Nostromo, so everything has been lovingly recreated, the sounds, the interior, the lighting. Definitely the best looking game i've seen on the new consoles.
