I figured in the wake of Harold Ramis' passing that I would watch this movie again. I've had the DVD for over a decade, and while it's obviously not his best movie, it has a few funny moments, but on the whole the movie doesn't feel satisfactory.
A lot of the movie is tracked with songs or has no scoring, but it does have its moments with Newman's signature touch of wonder and awe. I especially love the Colombian / Spanish flavor scoring for the main character's scene where he gets his first wish from the devil (some of this is later reprised in the film's end credits, and also on the DVD menu).
Interesting to note that the DVD also has two special feature bonus clips of the scoring sessions with David conducting.
I'd buy a release of this if it could be done, but since it's a comedy... eh. It's 20th Century Fox though. Anyone?
I like this one as we'll but I think the big problem would be the tracks are really short..some almost stings. Probably the only way it would work as a listen is to create some kind of Suite experience. Some great moments though and I love the film.
That`s a really nice score with this very memorable and prominent romantic 7 note theme. And the south american cues for the episode in colombia which are almost source cues are terriffic as well. I only never liked how Newman incorporated samples of the instrumental part of the song "Wild Thing" by Tone Loc in some of the cues. That - at least to me - sounded out of sync and didn`t really fit. Unlike the perfect inclusion of the song "Digga Digga Dog" in Newman`s 102 Dalmatians which worked perfectly.
